1Now on the first day of the weeks, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came early to the tomb; and she saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. 2Then she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken away the Lord from the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him." 3As a result, Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb. 4Now the two ran together, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and came to the tomb first; 5And he stooped down and saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not enter. 6Then Simon Peter came following him, and he went into the tomb and saw the linen cloths lying, 7And the napkin that had been on His head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself. 8Then the other disciple, who had come to the tomb first, also went in and saw these things; and he believed. 9For they did not yet understand the scripture which decreed that He must rise from the dead. 10Then the disciples went away again to their home. 11But Mary stood outside the tomb weeping; and as she wept, she stooped down and looked into the tomb. 12And she saw two angels in white who were sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been laid. 13And they said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him." 14And after saying these things, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but did not know that it was Jesus. 15Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?" Thinking that He was the gardener, she said to Him, "Sir, if you have carried Him off, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him away." 16Jesus said to her, "Mary." Turning around, she said to Him, "Rabboni"; that is to say, "Teacher." 17Jesus said to her, "Do not touch Me, because I have not yet ascended to My Father. But go to My brethren and tell them that I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God." 18Mary Magdalene came to the disciples, bringing word that she had seen the Lord, and that He had said these things to her. 19Afterwards, as evening was drawing near that day, the first day of the weeks, and the doors were shut where the disciples had assembled for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Peace be to you." 20And after saying this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples rejoiced because they had seen the Lord. 21Therefore, Jesus said to them again, "Peace be to you. As the Father sent Me, I am also sending you." 22And after saying this, He breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 23Those whose sins you shall remit, they are remitted to them; and those whose sins you shall retain, they are retained." 24But Thomas, called Didymus, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 25Then the other disciples said to him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see the nail marks in His hands, and put my finger into the nail marks, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe at all." 26Now after eight days, His disciples again were within, and Thomas with them. Jesus came after the doors were shut, and stood in the midst and said, "Peace be to you." 27Then He said to Thomas, "Put forth your finger, and see My hands; and reach out your hand, and put it into My side; and be not unbelieving, but believing." 28And Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and My God." 29Jesus said to him, "Because you have seen Me, Thomas, you have believed; blessed are the ones who have not seen, but have believed." 30Now then, Jesus did many other miracles in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book. 31But these have been written, so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing, you may have life through His name.
