John 15
Berean Literal Bible

Jesus the True Vine

1I am the true vine and My Father is the vinedresser. 2Every branch not bearing fruit in Me, He takes it away; and every one bearing fruit, He prunes it that it may bear more fruit. 3Already you are clean by reason of the word that I have spoken to you. 4Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch is not able to bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither you, unless you abide in Me.

5I am the vine; you are the branches. The one abiding in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit. For apart from Me you are able to do nothing. 6If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown out like the branch and is dried up, and they gather them and cast them into the fire, and it is burned. 7If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, you shall ask whatever you wish, and to you it will come to pass. 8In this My Father is glorified, that you should bear much fruit, and you shall be My disciples.

No Greater Love

9As the Father has loved Me, I also have loved you. Abide in My Love. 10If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. 11These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may be in you and your joy may be full.

12This is My commandment, that you love one another as I loved you. 13Greater love has no one than this, that one should lay down his life for his friends.

14You are My friends, if you do what I command you. 15No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because all things that I heard from My Father, I have made known to you. 16You did not chose Me, but I chose you and appointed you, that you should go and you should bear fruit, and your fruit should remain, so that whatever you might ask the Father in My name, He may give you. 17These things I command you, that you love one another.

The Hatred of the World

18If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before you. 19If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world but I chose you out of the world, on account of this, the world hates you.

20Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also. 21But they will do all these things against you on account of My name, because they have not known the One having sent Me. 22If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have had sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.

23The one hating Me hates My Father also. 24If I had not done among them the works that no other has done, they would not have had sin; but now they have both seen and hated both Me and My Father. 25But this is that the word having been written in their Law may be fulfilled: ‘They hated Me without cause.’a

26When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes forth from the Father, He will bear witness concerning Me. 27And you also bear witness, because you are with Me from the beginning.
