Old Testament Foundations

The anticipation of God's dwelling with His people is first seen in the Garden of Eden, where God walked with Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:8). Revelation 21:3 proclaims, "And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying: 'Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man, and He will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God.'" This vision describes a new creation where there is no more death, mourning, crying, or pain (Revelation 21:4), and where the glory of God illuminates the city, rendering the sun and moon unnecessary (Revelation 21:23).
