For the sake of Your name, O LORD,

David grounds his plea in the revealed character of the covenant God. The LORD had bound His name to His promises, mercy, holiness, and faithfulness, as proclaimed to Moses in Exodus 34:5–7. Deliverance would display God’s faithfulness before His people and among the nations.
