1Now the LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and family; and go to a land that I will show you: 2And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing: 3And I will bless those that bless you, and curse whoever curses you: and all families of the earth shall be blessed in you.” 4So Abram departed, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. and Abram was seventy-five years old when he left of Haran. 5And Abram took Sarai, his wife, and Lot his nephew, and all the possessions they had accumulated, and the people that they had acquired in Haran; and set out for and arrived in the land of Canaan. 6And they passed through the land as far as Shechem, by the oak (plain) of Moreh. At that time, the Canaanites inhabited the land. 7And the LORD appeared to Abram, and said, “I will give this land to your descendants.” And Abram built an altar there unto the LORD, Who had appeared unto him. 8And he traveled from there to a mountain east of Bethel, where he pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west, and Ai on the east: and there he built an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD. 9Then Abram continued his journey toward the Negev (south). 10And there was a famine in the land: and so, Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was severe in the land. 11And when he approached Egypt, he said to Sarai, his wife, “Look, I know what a beautiful woman you are: 12And when the Egyptians see you, they shall say, ‘This is his wife’: and they will kill me, but let you live. 13So please tell them that you are my sister, that they will spare and not kill me for your sake.” 14And when Abram came into Egypt, the Egyptians noticed that the woman was very attractive. 15The Egyptian princes saw her, and commended her to Pharaoh: and Sarai was taken into Pharaoh's house. 16And he treated Abram well for her sake: and Abram acquired sheep, oxen, male and female donkeys, camels, and male and female servants. 17And the LORD afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife. 18And Pharaoh summoned Abram, and said, “What have you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife? 19Why did you say, ‘She is my sister?’ I might have taken her for my wife; now then, here is your wife, take her, and go your way.” 20And Pharaoh gave orders to his men about Abram; and they sent him away with his wife, and all that he had acquired.
