What practical steps can you take to "attain life" through righteousness?

The Touchstone Verse

“Genuine righteousness leads to life, but he who pursues evil finds death.” (Proverbs 11:19)

What “attain life” means here

• Life that is vibrant now and everlasting in Christ (John 10:10; Romans 6:22–23)

• A daily experience of God’s favor, protection, and peace (Proverbs 12:28; Psalm 34:12–14)

Practical steps toward righteousness

• Receive the Righteous One

– Trust Jesus Christ, who “became to us… righteousness” (1 Corinthians 1:30).

– Confess Him openly (Romans 10:9–10).

• Saturate your mind with Scripture

– Read, memorize, and meditate on the Word daily (Psalm 1:1–3).

– Let the Spirit use Scripture to correct and train you (2 Timothy 3:16–17).

– Speak truthfully and graciously (Ephesians 4:25, 29).

– Avoid gossip and slander that tear down (Proverbs 13:3).

• Practice generosity and justice

– Give to the poor and support Gospel work (Proverbs 11:25; 2 Corinthians 9:6–8).

– Take no part in dishonest gain (Proverbs 16:11).

• Cultivate purity

– Flee sexual sin in thought and deed (1 Corinthians 6:18; Matthew 5:28–30).

– Set clear boundaries and seek accountability (Proverbs 27:17).

• Walk by the Spirit

– Start each day yielded to the Spirit’s leading (Galatians 5:16–25).

– Replace sinful habits with Spirit-produced virtues.

• Choose godly companions

– Spend time with those who push you toward Christ (Proverbs 13:20; Hebrews 10:24–25).

– Distance yourself from persistent evildoers (Psalm 1:1).

• Serve actively

– Use your gifts in the local church (1 Peter 4:10–11).

– Meet practical needs around you (Matthew 5:16).

Staying on the path

• Remember the promise: “The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till midday” (Proverbs 4:18).

• Keep looking to Christ, who “came so that they may have life and have it in all its fullness” (John 10:10).
