33 Now at the sixth hour there was darkness over the whole land, until the ninth hour. 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani," which is being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? 35 And some of them that stood by hearing it, said, Behold He calleth upon Elias. 36 And there ran one, and filled a spunge with vinegar, and putting it on a reed offered it Him to drink, saying, Let Him alone, let us see whether Elias will come to take Him down. 37 But Jesus cried with a loud voice and expired. 38 And the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top to the bottom. 39 And when the centurion, that stood over against Him, saw that He expired with such a cry, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God. 40 There were also women at a distance looking on: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome; 41 who also when He was in Galilee, followed Him and waited on Him: and several others who came up to Jerusalem with Him. 42 And the evening being now come, (because it was the preparation, 43 or the day before the sabbath,) Joseph of Arimathea, an honorable counsellor, who also was expecting the kingdom of God, came and went in boldly to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. 44 But Pilate wondered that He was dead already, and therefore calling for the centurion he asked him if He had been dead any time: 45 and when he heard it from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. 46 And he bought fine linen, and took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen, and laid Him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock; and rolled a stone to the door of the sepulchre. 47 And Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of Joses observed where He was laid.
