1 A prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, thou hast been our refuge from generation to generation. Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. A prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.
2 Before the mountains were made, or the earth and the world was formed; from eternity and to eternity thou art God. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
3 Turn not man away to be brought low: and thou hast said: Be converted, O ye sons of men. You return man to dust and say, “Return, O children of man!” You turn people back to dust, saying, “Return to dust, you mortals.”
4 For a thousand years in thy sight are as yesterday, which is past. And as a watch in the night, For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night. A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.
5 things that are counted nothing, shall their years be. You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream, like grass that is renewed in the morning: Yet you sweep people away in the sleep of death— they are like the new grass of the morning:
6 In the morning man shall grow up like grass; in the morning he shall flourish and pass away: in the evening he shall fall, grow dry, and wither. in the morning it flourishes and is renewed; in the evening it fades and withers. In the morning it springs up new, but by evening it is dry and withered.
7 For in thy wrath we have fainted away: and are troubled in thy indignation. For we are brought to an end by your anger; by your wrath we are dismayed. We are consumed by your anger and terrified by your indignation.
8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thy eyes: our life in the light of thy countenance. You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
9 For all our days are spent; and in thy wrath we have fainted away. Our years shall be considered spider: For all our days pass away under your wrath; we bring our years to an end like a sigh. All our days pass away under your wrath; we finish our years with a moan.
10 the days of our years in them are threescore and ten years. But if in the strong they be fourscore years: and what is more of them is labour and sorrow. For mildness is come upon us: and we shall be corrected. The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away. Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.
11 Who knoweth the power of thy anger, and for thy fear Who considers the power of your anger, and your wrath according to the fear of you? If only we knew the power of your anger! Your wrath is as great as the fear that is your due.
12 can number thy wrath? So make thy right hand known: and men learned in heart, in wisdom. So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
13 Return, O Lord, how long? and be entreated in favour of thy servants. Return, O LORD! How long? Have pity on your servants! Relent, LORD! How long will it be? Have compassion on your servants.
14 We are filled in the morning with thy mercy: and we have rejoiced, and are delighted all our days. Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
15 We have rejoiced for the days in which thou hast humbled us: for the years in which we have seen evils. Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, and for as many years as we have seen evil. Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble.
16 Look upon thy servants and upon their works: and direct their children. Let your work be shown to your servants, and your glorious power to their children. May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to their children.
17 And let the brightness of the Lord our God be upon us: and direct thou the works of our hands over us; yea, the work of our hands do thou direct. Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands! May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.
