O God, do not be silent! Do not be deaf. Do not be quiet, O God. O God, do not keep silence; do not hold your peace or be still, O God! A song. A psalm of Asaph. O God, do not remain silent; do not turn a deaf ear, do not stand aloof, O God.
Don’t you hear the uproar of your enemies? Don’t you see that your arrogant enemies are rising up? For behold, your enemies make an uproar; those who hate you have raised their heads. See how your enemies growl, how your foes rear their heads.
They devise crafty schemes against your people; they conspire against your precious ones. They lay crafty plans against your people; they consult together against your treasured ones. With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish.
“Come,” they say, “let us wipe out Israel as a nation. We will destroy the very memory of its existence.” They say, “Come, let us wipe them out as a nation; let the name of Israel be remembered no more!” “Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.”
Yes, this was their unanimous decision. They signed a treaty as allies against you— For they conspire with one accord; against you they make a covenant— With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you—
these Edomites and Ishmaelites; Moabites and Hagrites; the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites, the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites,
Gebalites, Ammonites, and Amalekites; and people from Philistia and Tyre. Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; Byblos, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre.
Assyria has joined them, too, and is allied with the descendants of Lot. Interlude Asshur also has joined them; they are the strong arm of the children of Lot. Selah Even Assyria has joined them to reinforce Lot’s descendants.
Do to them as you did to the Midianites and as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River. Do to them as you did to Midian, as to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon, Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon,
They were destroyed at Endor, and their decaying corpses fertilized the soil. who were destroyed at En-dor, who became dung for the ground. who perished at Endor and became like dung on the ground.
Let their mighty nobles die as Oreb and Zeeb did. Let all their princes die like Zebah and Zalmunna, Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
for they said, “Let us seize for our own use these pasturelands of God!” who said, “Let us take possession for ourselves of the pastures of God.” who said, “Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God.”
O my God, scatter them like tumbleweed, like chaff before the wind! O my God, make them like whirling dust, like chaff before the wind. Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like chaff before the wind.
As a fire burns a forest and as a flame sets mountains ablaze, As fire consumes the forest, as the flame sets the mountains ablaze, As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze,
chase them with your fierce storm; terrify them with your tempest. so may you pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your hurricane! so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm.
Utterly disgrace them until they submit to your name, O LORD. Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek your name, O LORD. Cover their faces with shame, LORD, so that they will seek your name.
Let them be ashamed and terrified forever. Let them die in disgrace. Let them be put to shame and dismayed forever; let them perish in disgrace, May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace.
Then they will learn that you alone are called the LORD, that you alone are the Most High, supreme over all the earth. that they may know that you alone, whose name is the LORD, are the Most High over all the earth. Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.
