TO THE OVERSEER. [SET] TO “LILIES OF TESTIMONY.” A PSALM OF ASAPH. Shepherd of Israel, give ear, || Leading Joseph as a flock, || Inhabiting the cherubim—shine forth, Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock. You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth. For the director of music. To the tune of “The Lilies of the Covenant.” Of Asaph. A psalm. Hear us, Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock. You who sit enthroned between the cherubim, shine forth
Before Ephraim, and Benjamin, and Manasseh, || Wake up Your might, and come for our salvation. Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up your might and come to save us! before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh. Awaken your might; come and save us.
O God, cause us to turn back, || And cause Your face to shine, and we are saved. Restore us, O God; let your face shine, that we may be saved! Restore us, O God; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved.
YHWH, God of Hosts, until when? You have burned against the prayer of Your people. O LORD God of hosts, how long will you be angry with your people’s prayers? How long, LORD God Almighty, will your anger smolder against the prayers of your people?
You have caused them to eat bread of tears, || And cause them to drink || With tears a third time. You have fed them with the bread of tears and given them tears to drink in full measure. You have fed them with the bread of tears; you have made them drink tears by the bowlful.
You make us a strife to our neighbors, || And our enemies mock at it. You make us an object of contention for our neighbors, and our enemies laugh among themselves. You have made us an object of derision to our neighbors, and our enemies mock us.
God of Hosts, turn us back, || And cause Your face to shine, and we are saved. Restore us, O God of hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved! Restore us, God Almighty; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved.
You bring a vine out of Egypt, || You cast out nations, and plant it. You brought a vine out of Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it. You transplanted a vine from Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it.
You have looked before it, and root it, || And it fills the land, You cleared the ground for it; it took deep root and filled the land. You cleared the ground for it, and it took root and filled the land.
Hills have been covered [with] its shadow, || And its boughs [are] cedars of God. The mountains were covered with its shade, the mighty cedars with its branches. The mountains were covered with its shade, the mighty cedars with its branches.
It sends forth its branches to the sea, || And its shoots to the river. It sent out its branches to the sea and its shoots to the River. Its branches reached as far as the Sea, its shoots as far as the River.
Why have You broken down its hedges, || And everyone passing by the way has plucked it? Why then have you broken down its walls, so that all who pass along the way pluck its fruit? Why have you broken down its walls so that all who pass by pick its grapes?
A boar out of the forest tears it, || And a wild beast of the fields grazes it. The boar from the forest ravages it, and all that move in the field feed on it. Boars from the forest ravage it, and insects from the fields feed on it.
God of Hosts, turn back, we implore You, || Look from the heavens, and see, and inspect this vine, Turn again, O God of hosts! Look down from heaven, and see; have regard for this vine, Return to us, God Almighty! Look down from heaven and see! Watch over this vine,
And the root that Your right hand planted, || And the branch You made strong for Yourself, the stock that your right hand planted, and for the son whom you made strong for yourself. the root your right hand has planted, the son you have raised up for yourself.
Burned with fire—cut down, || They perish from the rebuke of Your face. They have burned it with fire; they have cut it down; may they perish at the rebuke of your face! Your vine is cut down, it is burned with fire; at your rebuke your people perish.
Let Your hand be on the man of Your right hand || On the son of man You have strengthened for Yourself. But let your hand be on the man of your right hand, the son of man whom you have made strong for yourself! Let your hand rest on the man at your right hand, the son of man you have raised up for yourself.
And we do not go back from You, || You revive us, and in Your Name we call. Then we shall not turn back from you; give us life, and we will call upon your name! Then we will not turn away from you; revive us, and we will call on your name.
O YHWH, God of Hosts, turn us back, || Cause Your face to shine, and we are saved! Restore us, O LORD God of hosts! Let your face shine, that we may be saved! Restore us, LORD God Almighty; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved.
