1 A PSALM. A SONG OF THE DEDICATION OF THE HOUSE OF DAVID. I exalt You, O YHWH, || For You have drawn me up, || And have not let my enemies rejoice over me. I will extol you, O LORD, for you have drawn me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me. A psalm. A song. For the dedication of the temple. Of David. I will exalt you, LORD, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me.
2 My God YHWH, I have cried to You, || And You heal me. O LORD my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me. LORD my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.
3 YHWH, You have brought up my soul from Sheol, || You have kept me alive, || From going down [to] the pit. O LORD, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit. You, LORD, brought me up from the realm of the dead; you spared me from going down to the pit.
4 Sing praise to YHWH, you His saints, || And give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness, Sing praises to the LORD, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. Sing the praises of the LORD, you his faithful people; praise his holy name.
5 For—a moment [is] in His anger, || Life [is] in His goodwill, || At evening remains weeping, and at morning singing. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning. For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
6 And I have said in my ease, “I am not moved for all time. As for me, I said in my prosperity, “I shall never be moved.” When I felt secure, I said, “I will never be shaken.”
7 O YHWH, in Your good pleasure, || You have caused strength to remain for my mountain,” || You have hidden Your face—I have been troubled. By your favor, O LORD, you made my mountain stand strong; you hid your face; I was dismayed. LORD, when you favored me, you made my royal mountain stand firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed.
8 To You, O YHWH, I call, || And to YHWH I make supplication. To you, O LORD, I cry, and to the Lord I plead for mercy: To you, LORD, I called; to the Lord I cried for mercy:
9 “What gain [is] in my blood? In my going down to corruption? Does dust thank You? Does it declare Your truth? “What profit is there in my death, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness? “What is gained if I am silenced, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness?
10 Hear, O YHWH, and favor me, O YHWH, be a helper to me.” Hear, O LORD, and be merciful to me! O LORD, be my helper!” Hear, LORD, and be merciful to me; LORD, be my help.”
11 You have turned my mourning to dancing for me, || You have loosed my sackcloth, || And gird me [with] joy. You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
12 So that glory praises You, and is not silent, || O YHWH, my God, I thank You for all time! that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to you forever! that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. LORD my God, I will praise you forever.
