1	בְּצֵ֣את יִ֭שְׂרָאֵל מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם בֵּ֥ית יַ֝עֲקֹ֗ב מֵעַ֥ם לֹעֵֽז׃	When Israel went out from Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,	When Israel came out of Egypt, Jacob from a people of foreign tongue,
2	הָיְתָ֣ה יְהוּדָ֣ה לְקָדְשׁ֑וֹ יִ֝שְׂרָאֵ֗ל מַמְשְׁלוֹתָֽיו׃	Judah became his sanctuary, Israel his dominion.	Judah became God’s sanctuary, Israel his dominion.
3	הַיָּ֣ם רָ֭אָה וַיָּנֹ֑ס הַ֝יַּרְדֵּ֗ן יִסֹּ֥ב לְאָחֽוֹר׃	The sea looked and fled; Jordan turned back.	The sea looked and fled, the Jordan turned back;
4	הֶֽ֭הָרִים רָקְד֣וּ כְאֵילִ֑ים גְּ֝בָע֗וֹת כִּבְנֵי־ צֹֽאן׃	The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs.	the mountains leaped like rams, the hills like lambs.
5	מַה־ לְּךָ֣ הַ֭יָּם כִּ֣י תָנ֑וּס הַ֝יַּרְדֵּ֗ן תִּסֹּ֥ב לְאָחֽוֹר׃	What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back?	Why was it, sea, that you fled? Why, Jordan, did you turn back?
6	הֶֽ֭הָרִים תִּרְקְד֣וּ כְאֵילִ֑ים גְּ֝בָע֗וֹת כִּבְנֵי־ צֹֽאן׃	O mountains, that you skip like rams? O hills, like lambs?	Why, mountains, did you leap like rams, you hills, like lambs?
7	מִלִּפְנֵ֣י אָ֭דוֹן ח֣וּלִי אָ֑רֶץ מִ֝לִּפְנֵ֗י אֱל֣וֹהַּ יַעֲקֹֽב׃	Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,	Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8	הַהֹפְכִ֣י הַצּ֣וּר אֲגַם־ מָ֑יִם חַ֝לָּמִ֗ישׁ לְמַעְיְנוֹ־ מָֽיִם׃	who turns the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a spring of water.	who turned the rock into a pool, the hard rock into springs of water.
