1 Upon descending from the hill country He was followed by immense crowds. When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him. When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him.
2 And a leper came to Him, and throwing himself at His feet, said, "Sir, if only you are willing you are able to cleanse me." And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
3 So Jesus put out His hand and touched him, and said, "I am willing: be cleansed." Instantly he was cleansed from his leprosy; And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.
4 and Jesus said to him, "Be careful to tell no one, but go and show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift which Moses appointed as evidence for them." And Jesus said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to them.” Then Jesus said to him, “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”
5 After His entry into Capernaum a Captain came to Him, and entreated Him. When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help.
6 "Sir," he said, "my servant at home is lying ill with paralysis, and is suffering great pain." “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.” “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.”
7 "I will come and cure him," said Jesus. And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?”
8 "Sir," replied the Captain, "I am not a fit person to receive you under my roof: merely say the word, and my servant will be cured. But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
9 For I myself am also under authority, and have soldiers under me. To one I say 'Go,' and he goes, to another 'Come,' and he comes, and to my slave 'Do this or that,' and he does it." For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
10 Jesus listened to this reply, and was astonished, and said to the people following Him, "I solemnly tell you that in no Israelite have I found faith as great as this. When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith. When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.
11 And I tell you that many will come from the east and from the west and will recline at table with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the Kingdom of the Heavens, I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.
12 while the natural heirs of the Kingdom will be driven out into the darkness outside: there will be the weeping aloud and the gnashing of teeth." while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
13 And Jesus said to the Captain, "Go, and just as you have believed, so be it for you." And the servant recovered precisely at that time. And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment. Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment.
14 After this Jesus went to the house of Peter, whose mother-in-law he found ill in bed with fever. And when Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever.
15 He touched her hand and the fever left her: and then she rose and waited upon Him. He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him. He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him.
16 In the evening many demoniacs were brought to Him, and with a word He expelled the demons; and He cured all the sick, That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick.
17 in order that this prediction of the Prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled, "He took on Him our weaknesses, and bore the burden of our diseases." This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.” This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.”
18 Seeing great crowds about Him Jesus had given directions to cross to the other side of the Lake, Now when Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side. When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake.
19 when a Scribe came and said to Him, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go." And a scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”
20 "Foxes have holes," replied Jesus, "and birds have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head." And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”
21 Another of the disciples said to Him, "Sir, allow me first to go and bury my father." Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” Another disciple said to him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”
22 "Follow me," said Jesus, "and leave the dead to bury their own dead." And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.” But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”
23 Then He went on board a fishing-boat, and His disciples followed Him. And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him.
24 But suddenly there arose a great storm on the Lake, so that the waves threatened to engulf the boat; but He was asleep. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.
25 So they came and woke Him, crying, "Master, save us, we are drowning!" And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 "Why are you so easily frightened," He replied, "you men of little faith?" Then He rose and reproved the winds and the waves, and there was a perfect calm; And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
27 and the men, filled with amazement, exclaimed, "What kind of man is this? for the very winds and waves obey him!" And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?” The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”
28 On His arrival at the other side, in the country of the Gadarenes, there met Him two men possessed by demons, coming from among the tombs: they were so dangerously fierce that no one was able to pass that way. And when he came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way. When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way.
29 They cried aloud, "What hast Thou to do with us, Thou Son of God? Hast Thou come here to torment us before the time?" And behold, they cried out, “What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?” “What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?”
30 Now at some distance from them a vast herd of swine were feeding. Now a herd of many pigs was feeding at some distance from them. Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding.
31 So the demons entreated Him. "If Thou drivest us out," they said, "send us into the herd of swine." And the demons begged him, saying, “If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs.” The demons begged Jesus, “If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.”
32 "Go," He replied. Then they came out from the men and went into the swine, whereupon the entire herd instantly rushed down the cliff into the Lake and perished in the water. And he said to them, “Go.” So they came out and went into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters. He said to them, “Go!” So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water.
33 The swineherds fled, and went and told the whole story in the town, including what had happened to the demoniacs. The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, especially what had happened to the demon-possessed men. Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men.
34 So at once the whole population came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw Him, they besought Him to leave their country. And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their region. Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region.
