1 When Jesus was come down from the mountain, a great multitude followed him. When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him. When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him.
2 and there came a leper who threw himself at his feet, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
3 and Jesus held out his hand and touched him, saying, I will, be thou clean, and immediately he was cured of his leprosy. And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.
4 and Jesus said to him, take care not to tell any man, but go thy way, shew thy self to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, that it may be a testimony against them. And Jesus said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to them.” Then Jesus said to him, “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”
5 When Jesus was entred into Capernaum, a centurion came and addressed himself to him, When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help.
6 saying, Lord, my servant lies sick at home grievously afflicted with the palsy, “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.” “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.”
7 and Jesus said to him, I will come and heal him. And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?”
8 the centurion answered, Lord, I am not worthy the honour of such a visit: do but give the word, and my servant is sav'd. But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
9 for I am a man under authority, having soldiers under my command: I bid this man, go, and he's gone: another, come, and he's here: and to my servant, do this, and it is done. For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
10 when Jesus heard it, he was surpriz'd, and said to his followers, I profess I have not met with such an instance of faith, no not in Israel. When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith. When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.
11 and I declare unto you, that many shall come from the east and from the west, and shall sit at table with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the heavenly kingdom. I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.
12 but the heirs to the kingdom shall be cast into the darkness without: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
13 and Jesus said to the centurion, go thy way, what you believed could be done, is effected for you, and his servant was healed in that very hour. And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment. Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment.
14 After this Jesus went to Peter's house, where seeing his wife's mother lying sick of a fever, And when Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever.
15 he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose and gave him entertainment. He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him. He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him.
16 in the evening they brought him several demoniacs: and he cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all that were sick: That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick.
17 whereby was fulfilled what Esaias the prophet said, "Himself took our infirmities, and bare, our diseases." This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.” This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.”
18 Now Jesus perceiving the crowd about him, gave orders to pass over to the other side of the lake. Now when Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side. When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake.
19 when a certain scribe came to him, and said, Master, I will follow you where-ever you go. And a scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”
20 Jesus replyed, the foxes have kennels, and the birds of the air have nests; but the son of man hath not where to lay his head. And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”
21 another of his disciples said to him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” Another disciple said to him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”
22 but Jesus said to him, follow me, and let the dead bury their dead. And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.” But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”
23 When he went aboard the vessel, his disciples followed him. And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him.
24 and on a sudden so great a storm arose at sea, that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.
25 and his disciples came and awaked him, saying, Lord, save us: we are sinking. And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 and he answer'd, why are you afraid, o incredulous people? then he arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
27 but the crew were all amaz'd; what is this man, said they, that even the winds and the sea obey him? And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?” The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”
28 When he was arrived on the other side, in the country of the Gergesenes, two demoniacs met him starting out of the tombs with such fury, it was not safe for any body to pass that way. And when he came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way. When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way.
29 and they roar'd out, Jesus, thou son of God, what injury have we done you? are you come here to torment us before the time? And behold, they cried out, “What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?” “What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?”
30 and there was a considerable herd of swine feeding, at some distance from them. Now a herd of many pigs was feeding at some distance from them. Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding.
31 So the devils entreated him, saying, if you force us out, suffer us to retire into the herd of swine. And the demons begged him, saying, “If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs.” The demons begged Jesus, “If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.”
32 and Jesus bad them go, accordingly they came out, and went into the herd of swine: and immediately the herd of swine ran furiously down a precipice into the sea, where they were all drown'd. And he said to them, “Go.” So they came out and went into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters. He said to them, “Go!” So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water.
33 and they that kept them fled away into the town, and told the whole story of what had happen'd to the devils and their demoniacs. The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, especially what had happened to the demon-possessed men. Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men.
34 whereupon the city went in a body to meet Jesus, and when they saw him they desir'd him to withdraw out of their country. And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their region. Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region.
