1	“Beware of doing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.	“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.	“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
2	“Therefore, when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be glorified by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.	“Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.	“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.
3	But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,	But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,	But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
4	so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.	so that your giving may be in secret. 5	“And when you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. 6	But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
7	“And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.	“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.	And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.

16	“Now whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.	“And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.	“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.
17	But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face	But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,	But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face,
18	so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.	that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. 22	“The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.	“The eye is the lamp of the body. 23	But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. 24	“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. 25	“For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?	“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?	“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?
26	Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? 28	And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin,	And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,	“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.
29	yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.	yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.	Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
30	But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!	But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?	If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?
31	Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’	Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’	So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
32	For all these things the Gentiles eagerly seek; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.	For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.	For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
33	But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.	But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.	But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
34	“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.	“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.	Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
