“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of people, to be seen by them. Otherwise, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. “Take care not to practice your righteousness in the sight of people, to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.
“Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. So whenever you give to the poor, don’t sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be applauded by people. I assure you: They’ve got their reward! Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. “So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, so that they will be praised by people. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, But when you give to the poor, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. so that your charitable giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. “Whenever you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by people. I assure you: They’ve got their reward! And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. “And when you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they will be seen by people. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. But when you pray, go into your private room, shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But as for you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. When you pray, don’t babble like the idolaters, since they imagine they’ll be heard for their many words. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. “And when you are praying, do not use thoughtless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard because of their many words.
Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Don’t be like them, because your Father knows the things you need before you ask Him. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. “Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, Your name be honored as holy. After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. “Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father, who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. ‘Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, Give us today our daily bread. Give us this day our daily bread. ‘Give us this day our daily bread.
and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. ‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.’
For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, “For if you forgive people their wrongdoing, your heavenly Father will forgive you as well. For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: For if you forgive other people for their offenses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. But if you don’t forgive people, your Father will not forgive your wrongdoing. But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. But if you do not forgive other people, then your Father will not forgive your offenses.
“And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. “Whenever you fast, don’t be sad-faced like the hypocrites. For they make their faces unattractive so their fasting is obvious to people. I assure you: They’ve got their reward! Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. “Now whenever you fast, do not make a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they distort their faces so that they will be noticed by people when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, But when you fast, put oil on your head, and wash your face, But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; But as for you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. so that you don’t show your fasting to people but to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly. so that your fasting will not be noticed by people but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, “Don’t collect for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. But collect for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves don’t break in and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. “The eye is the lamp of the body; so then, if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.
but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. So if the light within you is darkness—how deep is that darkness! But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. So if the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. “No one can be a slave of two masters, since either he will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot be slaves of God and of money. No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? “This is why I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing? Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing?
Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Look at the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Look at the birds of the sky, that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather crops into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more important than they?
And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? Can any of you add a single cubit to his height by worrying? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And which of you by worrying can add a single day to his life’s span?
And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, And why do you worry about clothes? Learn how the wildflowers of the field grow: they don’t labor or spin thread. And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And why are you worried about clothing? Notice how the lilies of the field grow; they do not labor nor do they spin thread for cloth,
yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these! And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.
But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? If that’s how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won’t He do much more for you—you of little faith? Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!
Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ So don’t worry, saying, What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? Do not worry then, saying, ‘What are we to eat?’ or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘What are we to wear for clothing?’
For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. For the idolaters eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you.
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
