Whether of the twain did the will of his father? They say, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes go into the kingdom of God before you. “Which of the two did what his father wanted?” “The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.
For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye saw it, did not even repent yourselves afterward, that ye might believe him. For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. And even when you saw it, you did not afterward change your minds and believe him. For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.
Hear another parable: There was a man that was a householder, which planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country. “Hear another parable. There was a master of a house who planted a vineyard and put a fence around it and dug a winepress in it and built a tower and leased it to tenants, and went into another country. “Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place.
And when the season of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, to receive his fruits. When the season for fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to get his fruit. When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit.
And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. And the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. “The tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another, and stoned a third.
Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them in like manner. Again he sent other servants, more than the first. And they did the same to them. Then he sent other servants to them, more than the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way.
But afterward he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. Finally he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ Last of all, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said.
But the husbandmen, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and take his inheritance. But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.’ “But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance.’
And they took him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. And they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.
When therefore the lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do unto those husbandmen? When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?” “Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”
They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will let out the vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons. They said to him, “He will put those wretches to a miserable death and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.” “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,” they replied, “and he will rent the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him his share of the crop at harvest time.”
Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner: This was from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes? Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’? Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “’The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?
Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken away from you, and shall be given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruits. “Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.
And he that falleth on this stone shall be broken to pieces: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust. And the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.” Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.”
And when the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them. When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he was speaking about them. When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard Jesus’ parables, they knew he was talking about them.
And when they sought to lay hold on him, they feared the multitudes, because they took him for a prophet. And although they were seeking to arrest him, they feared the crowds, because they held him to be a prophet. They looked for a way to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowd because the people held that he was a prophet.
