1 And He said also to His disciples, "There was a certain rich man who had a steward, and the same was accused to him as squandering his goods. He also said to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had a manager, and charges were brought to him that this man was wasting his possessions. Jesus told his disciples: “There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions.
2 And, calling him, he said to him, 'What is this I hear of you? Render the account of your stewardship; for you can be no longer steward.' And he called him and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear about you? Turn in the account of your management, for you can no longer be manager.’ So he called him in and asked him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.’
3 And the steward said in himself, 'What shall I do? because my lord takes away the stewardship from me! To dig, I have not strength; to beg, I am ashamed! And the manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do, since my master is taking the management away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg. “The manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I’m not strong enough to dig, and I’m ashamed to beg—
4 I resolved what to do; that, when I am removed from the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.' I have decided what to do, so that when I am removed from management, people may receive me into their houses.’ I know what I’ll do so that, when I lose my job here, people will welcome me into their houses.’
5 And, calling to him each one of his lord's debtors, he said to the first, 'How much do you owe my lord?' So, summoning his master’s debtors one by one, he said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ “So he called in each one of his master’s debtors. He asked the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’
6 And he said, 'A hundred measures of oil.' And he said to him, 'Take your accounts, and, sitting down, quickly write, Fifty.' He said, ‘A hundred measures of oil.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’ “’Nine hundred gallons of olive oil,’ he replied. “The manager told him, ‘Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it four hundred and fifty.’
7 After that he said to another, 'And how much do you owe?' And he said, 'A hundred measures of wheat.' He says to him, 'Take your accounts, and write, Four score.' Then he said to another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ He said, ‘A hundred measures of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.’ “Then he asked the second, ‘And how much do you owe?’ “’A thousand bushels of wheat,’ he replied. “He told him, ‘Take your bill and make it eight hundred.’
8 And the lord praised the steward of unrighteousness, because he acted prudently; because the sons of this age are more prudent toward their own generation, than the sons of light. The master commended the dishonest manager for his shrewdness. For the sons of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light. “The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light.
9 And I say to you, make to yourselves friends out of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when it fails, they may receive you into everlasting tabernacles. And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth, so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal dwellings. I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.
10 He that is faithful in the least is faithful also in much; he that is unrighteous in the least is unrighteous in much. “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.
11 If, therefore, ye were not faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will entrust to you the true riches? If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?
12 And, if ye were not faithful in that which is another's, who will give to you your own? And if you have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?
13 No domestic can serve two lords; for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or he will hold to one, and despise the other: ye cannot serve God and mammon." No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
14 And the Pharisees, being lovers of money, were hearing all these things, and were openly mocking Him. The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed him. The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus.
15 And He said to them, "Ye are those who justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts; because that which is exalted among men is an abomination before God. 17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one tittle of the law to fall. But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one dot of the Law to become void. It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law.
18 "Every one who puts away his wife, and marries another, commits adultery; and he who marries a woman divorced from her husband, commits adultery. “Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery. “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

21 and desiring to be fed with the crumbs falling from the rich man's table; yea, even the dogs, coming, were licking his sores. who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table. 22 And it came to pass that the poor man died, and that he was carried away by the angels into Abraham's bosom. And the rich man also died, and was buried; The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. 23 and in Hades, lifting up his eyes, being in torments, he sees Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. 24 And, crying, he said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; because I am in anguish in this flame!' And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’
25 But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that, in your lifetime, you received in full your good things, and Lazarus, likewise, evil things; but now here he is comforted, and you are in anguish. But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.
26 And, in all these things, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed; so that those wishing to cross from hence to you cannot; nor do they pass from thence to us.' And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’ And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’
27 And he said, 'I pray you, therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house; And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father’s house— “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family,
28 for I have five brothers; that he may testify to them, lest they also come into this place of torment.' for I have five brothers—so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.’ for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’
29 But Abraham says, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.' But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’
30 But he said, 'Nay, father Abraham; but, if one go to them from the dead, they will repent.' And he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ “’No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’
31 But he said to him, 'If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, if one rose from the dead.'" He said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’” “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
