1 And YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, The LORD said to Moses,
2 “Speak to the sons of Israel, and you shall say to them: I am YHWH your⁺ God. “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, I am the LORD your God. “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘I am the LORD your God.
3 You⁺ shall not do according to the work of the land of Egypt in which you⁺ dwelt, and according to the work of the land of Canaan where I am bringing you⁺, you⁺ shall not do, and in their statutes you⁺ shall not walk. You shall not do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you lived, and you shall not do as they do in the land of Canaan, to which I am bringing you. You shall not walk in their statutes. You must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices.
4 You⁺ shall do My judgments, and you⁺ shall keep My statutes, to walk in them. I am YHWH your⁺ God. You shall follow my rules and keep my statutes and walk in them. I am the LORD your God. You must obey my laws and be careful to follow my decrees. I am the LORD your God.
5 And you⁺ shall keep My statutes and My judgments, which the man shall do them, and he shall live by them. I am YHWH. You shall therefore keep my statutes and my rules; if a person does them, he shall live by them: I am the LORD. Keep my decrees and laws, for the person who obeys them will live by them. I am the LORD.
6 Any man shall not draw near to any close relative of his flesh to uncover nakedness. I am YHWH. “None of you shall approach any one of his close relatives to uncover nakedness. I am the LORD. “’No one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the LORD.
7 The nakedness of your father and the nakedness of your mother you shall not uncover. She is your mother; you shall not uncover her nakedness. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father, which is the nakedness of your mother; she is your mother, you shall not uncover her nakedness. “’Do not dishonor your father by having sexual relations with your mother. She is your mother; do not have relations with her.
8 The nakedness of the wife of your father you shall not uncover; it is the nakedness of your father. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife; it is your father’s nakedness. “’Do not have sexual relations with your father’s wife; that would dishonor your father.
9 The nakedness of your sister the daughter of your father or the daughter of your mother born at home or born outside it, you shall not uncover their nakedness. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your sister, your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether brought up in the family or in another home. “’Do not have sexual relations with your sister, either your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether she was born in the same home or elsewhere.
10 The nakedness of the daughter of your son or of the daughter of your daughter—you shall not uncover their nakedness; for they are your own nakedness. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your son’s daughter or of your daughter’s daughter, for their nakedness is your own nakedness. “’Do not have sexual relations with your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter; that would dishonor you.
11 The nakedness of the daughter of the wife of your father, begotten of your father—she is your sister—you shall not uncover her nakedness. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife’s daughter, brought up in your father’s family, since she is your sister. “’Do not have sexual relations with the daughter of your father’s wife, born to your father; she is your sister.
12 The nakedness of the sister of your father you shall not uncover; she is a close relative of your father. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s sister; she is your father’s relative. “’Do not have sexual relations with your father’s sister; she is your father’s close relative.
13 The nakedness of the sister of your mother you shall not uncover, for she is a close relative of your mother. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother’s sister, for she is your mother’s relative. “’Do not have sexual relations with your mother’s sister, because she is your mother’s close relative.
14 The nakedness of the brother of your father you shall not uncover. To his wife you shall not draw near; she is your aunt. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s brother, that is, you shall not approach his wife; she is your aunt. “’Do not dishonor your father’s brother by approaching his wife to have sexual relations; she is your aunt.
15 The nakedness of your daughter-in-law you shall not uncover; she is the wife of your son. You shall not uncover her nakedness. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law; she is your son’s wife, you shall not uncover her nakedness. “’Do not have sexual relations with your daughter-in-law. She is your son’s wife; do not have relations with her.
16 The nakedness of the wife of your brother you shall not uncover; it is the nakedness of your brother. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother’s wife; it is your brother’s nakedness. “’Do not have sexual relations with your brother’s wife; that would dishonor your brother.
17 The nakedness of a woman and her daughter you shall not uncover—the daughter of her son and the daughter of her daughter you shall not take to uncover her nakedness. They are close relatives; it is wickedness. You shall not uncover the nakedness of a woman and of her daughter, and you shall not take her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter to uncover her nakedness; they are relatives; it is depravity. “’Do not have sexual relations with both a woman and her daughter. Do not have sexual relations with either her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter; they are her close relatives. That is wickedness.
18 And a woman to her sister you shall not take, to be a rival, to uncover her nakedness beside her in her life. And you shall not take a woman as a rival wife to her sister, uncovering her nakedness while her sister is still alive. “’Do not take your wife’s sister as a rival wife and have sexual relations with her while your wife is living.
19 And to a woman in the menstruation of her uncleanness you shall not draw near to uncover her nakedness. “You shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness while she is in her menstrual uncleanness. “’Do not approach a woman to have sexual relations during the uncleanness of her monthly period.
20 And to the wife of your neighbor you shall not give your lying to seed to defile yourself with her. And you shall not lie sexually with your neighbor’s wife and so make yourself unclean with her. “’Do not have sexual relations with your neighbor’s wife and defile yourself with her.
21 And from your seed you shall not give to pass over to Molech, and you shall not profane the name of your God. I am YHWH. You shall not give any of your children to offer them to Molech, and so profane the name of your God: I am the LORD. “’Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molek, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the LORD.
22 And with a male you shall not lie the lyings of a woman; it is an abomination. You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination. “’Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable.
23 And with any animal you shall not give your lyings to defile yourself with it, and a woman shall not stand before the face of an animal to lie with it. It is perversion. And you shall not lie with any animal and so make yourself unclean with it, neither shall any woman give herself to an animal to lie with it: it is perversion. “’Do not have sexual relations with an animal and defile yourself with it. A woman must not present herself to an animal to have sexual relations with it; that is a perversion.
24 Do not defile yourselves with any of these things, for by all these the nations have defiled themselves, which I am sending away from before your⁺ faces. “Do not make yourselves unclean by any of these things, for by all these the nations I am driving out before you have become unclean, “’Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, because this is how the nations that I am going to drive out before you became defiled.
25 And the land is defiled; and I visit the punishment of its iniquity upon it, and the land vomits out those dwelling in it. and the land became unclean, so that I punished its iniquity, and the land vomited out its inhabitants. Even the land was defiled; so I punished it for its sin, and the land vomited out its inhabitants.
26 And you⁺ shall keep My statutes and My judgments, and you⁺ shall not do from all of these abominations, the native and the sojourner who is sojourning in your⁺ midst— But you shall keep my statutes and my rules and do none of these abominations, either the native or the stranger who sojourns among you But you must keep my decrees and my laws. The native-born and the foreigners residing among you must not do any of these detestable things,
27 for the men of the land who were before your⁺ faces have done all these abominations, and the land was defiled— (for the people of the land, who were before you, did all of these abominations, so that the land became unclean), for all these things were done by the people who lived in the land before you, and the land became defiled.
28 And the land will not vomit you⁺ out when you⁺ defile it, as it vomited out the nation that was before your⁺ faces. lest the land vomit you out when you make it unclean, as it vomited out the nation that was before you. And if you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it vomited out the nations that were before you.
29 For anyone who does from all these abominations—then the soul who do them—shall be cut off from among their people. For everyone who does any of these abominations, the persons who do them shall be cut off from among their people. “’Everyone who does any of these detestable things—such persons must be cut off from their people.
30 And you⁺ shall keep My charge, to not do from the statutes of the abominations that have been done before your⁺ faces, and you⁺ shall not defile yourselves by them. I am YHWH your⁺ God.” So keep my charge never to practice any of these abominable customs that were practiced before you, and never to make yourselves unclean by them: I am the LORD your God.” Keep my requirements and do not follow any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you came and do not defile yourselves with them. I am the LORD your God.’”
