A Prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth. A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according to Shigionoth. A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet. On shigionoth.
Jehovah, I heard the report of thee, [and] I feared. Jehovah, revive thy work in the midst of the years, In the midst of the years make [it] known: In wrath remember mercy! O LORD, I have heard the report of you, and your work, O LORD, do I fear. In the midst of the years revive it; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy. LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, LORD. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.
God came from Teman, And the holy one from mount Paran. Selah. his glory covereth the heavens, And the earth is full of his praise. God came from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah His splendor covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise. God came from Teman, the Holy One from Mount Paran. His glory covered the heavens and his praise filled the earth.
And [his] brightness was as the light; Rays [came forth] from his hand; And there was the hiding of his power. His brightness was like the light; rays flashed from his hand; and there he veiled his power. His splendor was like the sunrise; rays flashed from his hand, where his power was hidden.
Before him went the pestilence, And a burning flame went forth at his feet. Before him went pestilence, and plague followed at his heels. Plague went before him; pestilence followed his steps.
He stood, and measured the earth; He beheld, and discomfited the nations; And the eternal mountains were scattered, The everlasting hills gave way: His ways are everlasting. He stood and measured the earth; he looked and shook the nations; then the eternal mountains were scattered; the everlasting hills sank low. His were the everlasting ways. He stood, and shook the earth; he looked, and made the nations tremble. The ancient mountains crumbled and the age-old hills collapsed— but he marches on forever.
I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction; The curtains of the land of Midian did tremble. I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction; the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble. I saw the tents of Cushan in distress, the dwellings of Midian in anguish.
Was Jehovah wrathful with the rivers? Was thine anger against the rivers? Was thy rage against the sea, That thou didst ride upon thy horses, Thy chariots of salvation? Was your wrath against the rivers, O LORD? Was your anger against the rivers, or your indignation against the sea, when you rode on your horses, on your chariot of salvation? Were you angry with the rivers, LORD? Was your wrath against the streams? Did you rage against the sea when you rode your horses and your chariots to victory?
Thy bow was made naked, The rods [of discipline] sworn according to [thy] word. Selah. Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers. You stripped the sheath from your bow, calling for many arrows. Selah You split the earth with rivers. You uncovered your bow, you called for many arrows. You split the earth with rivers;
The mountains saw thee, they were in travail: Torrents of waters passed by; The deep uttered its voice, Lifted up its hands on high. The mountains saw you and writhed; the raging waters swept on; the deep gave forth its voice; it lifted its hands on high. the mountains saw you and writhed. Torrents of water swept by; the deep roared and lifted its waves on high.
The sun [and] moon stood still in their habitation, At the light of thine arrows which shot forth, -- At the shining of thy glittering spear. The sun and moon stood still in their place at the light of your arrows as they sped, at the flash of your glittering spear. Sun and moon stood still in the heavens at the glint of your flying arrows, at the lightning of your flashing spear.
Thou didst march through the land in indignation, Thou didst thresh the nations in anger. You marched through the earth in fury; you threshed the nations in anger. In wrath you strode through the earth and in anger you threshed the nations.
Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, For the salvation of thine anointed; Thou didst smite off the head from the house of the wicked, Laying bare the foundation even to the neck. Selah. You went out for the salvation of your people, for the salvation of your anointed. You crushed the head of the house of the wicked, laying him bare from thigh to neck. Selah You came out to deliver your people, to save your anointed one. You crushed the leader of the land of wickedness, you stripped him from head to foot.
Thou didst strike through with his own spears the head of his leaders: They came out as a whirlwind to scatter me, Whose exulting was as to devour the afflicted secretly. You pierced with his own arrows the heads of his warriors, who came like a whirlwind to scatter me, rejoicing as if to devour the poor in secret. With his own spear you pierced his head when his warriors stormed out to scatter us, gloating as though about to devour the wretched who were in hiding.
Thou didst walk through the sea with thy horses, The heap of great waters. You trampled the sea with your horses, the surging of mighty waters. You trampled the sea with your horses, churning the great waters.
I heard, and my belly trembled; My lips quivered at the voice; Rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in my place, That I might rest in the day of distress, When their invader shall come up against the people. I hear, and my body trembles; my lips quiver at the sound; rottenness enters into my bones; my legs tremble beneath me. Yet I will quietly wait for the day of trouble to come upon people who invade us. I heard and my heart pounded, my lips quivered at the sound; decay crept into my bones, and my legs trembled. Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity to come on the nation invading us.
For though the fig-tree shall not blossom, Neither shall fruit be in the vines; The labour of the olive-tree shall fail, And the fields shall yield no food; The flock shall be cut off from the fold, And there shall be no herd in the stalls: Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls,
Yet I will rejoice in Jehovah, I will joy in the God of my salvation. yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.
Jehovah, the Lord, is my strength, And he maketh my feet like hinds' [feet], And he will make me to walk upon my high places. To the chief Musician. On my stringed instruments. GOD, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer’s; he makes me tread on my high places. To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights. For the director of music. On my stringed instruments.
