1 Now it happened in Iconium that they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews, and they spoke in such a way that a copious multitude of both Jews and Greeks believed. Now at Iconium they entered together into the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed. At Iconium Paul and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue. There they spoke so effectively that a great number of Jews and Greeks believed.
2 Yet truly, the Jews who were unbelieving had incited and enflamed the souls of the Gentiles against the brothers. But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers. But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the other Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.
3 And so, they remained for a long time, acting faithfully in the Lord, offering testimony to the Word of his grace, providing signs and wonders done by their hands. So they remained for a long time, speaking boldly for the Lord, who bore witness to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands. 10 <V 14:9>said with a loud voice, “Stand upright upon your feet!” And he leaped up and walked around. said in a loud voice, “Stand upright on your feet.” And he sprang up and began walking. and called out, “Stand up on your feet!” At that, the man jumped up and began to walk.
11 <V 14:10>But when the crowds had seen what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice in the Lycaonian language, saying, “The gods, having taken the likenesses of men, have descended to us!” And when the crowds saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in Lycaonian, “The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!” When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they shouted in the Lycaonian language, “The gods have come down to us in human form!”
12 <V 14:11>And they called Barnabas, ‘Jupiter,’ yet truly they called Paul, ‘Mercury,’ because he was the lead speaker. Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker. Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul they called Hermes because he was the chief speaker.
13 <V 14:12>Also, the priest of Jupiter, who was outside the city, in front of the gate, bringing in oxen and garlands, was willing to offer sacrifice with the people. And the priest of Zeus, whose temple was at the entrance to the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates and wanted to offer sacrifice with the crowds. We also are men, of like nature with you, and we bring you good news, that you should turn from these vain things to a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them. “Friends, why are you doing this? We too are only human, like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heavens and the earth and the sea and everything in them.
16 <V 14:15>In previous generations, he permitted all nations to walk in their own ways. In past generations he allowed all the nations to walk in their own ways. In the past, he let all nations go their own way.
17 <V 14:16>But certainly, he did not leave himself without testimony, doing good from heaven, giving rains and fruitful seasons, filling their hearts with food and gladness.” Yet he did not leave himself without witness, for he did good by giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.” Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.”
18 <V 14:17>And by saying these things, they were barely able to restrain the crowds from immolating to them. Even with these words they scarcely restrained the people from offering sacrifice to them. Even with these words, they had difficulty keeping the crowd from sacrificing to them.
19 <V 14:18>Now certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium arrived there. And having persuaded the crowd, they stoned Paul and dragged him outside of the city, thinking him to be dead. 23 <V 14:22>And when they had established priests for them in each church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, in whom they believed. Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust.
24 <V 14:23>And traveling by way of Pisidia, they arrived in Pamphylia. Then they passed through Pisidia and came to Pamphylia. After going through Pisidia, they came into Pamphylia,
