1 Now the apostles, and the brethren who were in Judaea, heard that the gentiles also received the word of God. Now the apostles and the brothers who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. The apostles and the believers throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.
2 And, when Peter went up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision were contending with him, So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcision party criticized him, saying, So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized him
3 saying, that he went in to men holding uncircumcision, and ate with them! “You went to uncircumcised men and ate with them.” and said, “You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.”
4 But Peter, beginning at the first , was explaining it to them in order, saying, But Peter began and explained it to them in order: Starting from the beginning, Peter told them the whole story:
5 "I was in the city of Joppa, praying: and, in a trance, I saw a vision, a certain vessel descending, as a large sheet, let down out of the heaven by four corners; and it came close to me: “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision, something like a great sheet descending, being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to me. “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. 6 into which gazing intently, I was considering, and saw the four-footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and the birds of the heaven. Looking at it closely, I observed animals and beasts of prey and reptiles and birds of the air. I looked into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles and birds.
7 And I heard also a voice, saying to me, 'Arising, Peter, kill and eat.' And I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter; kill and eat.’ Then I heard a voice telling me, ‘Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.’
8 But I said, 'By no means, Lord; because a common or an unclean thing never entered into my mouth!' But I said, ‘By no means, Lord; for nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’ “I replied, ‘Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’
9 But a voice answered a second time out of the heaven, 'What God cleansed, make not common.' But the voice answered a second time from heaven, ‘What God has made clean, do not call common.’ “The voice spoke from heaven a second time, ‘Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’
10 And this took place thrice: and all were drawn up again into the heaven. This happened three times, and all was drawn up again into heaven. This happened three times, and then it was all pulled up to heaven again.
11 And, behold, immediately there stood three men at the house in which we were, having been sent to me from Caesarea. And behold, at that very moment three men arrived at the house in which we were, sent to me from Caesarea. “Right then three men who had been sent to me from Caesarea stopped at the house where I was staying.
12 And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. And these six brethren also went with me; and we entered into the man's house. And the Spirit told me to go with them, making no distinction. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we entered the man’s house. The Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going with them. These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man’s house.
13 And he told us how he saw the angel in his house, standing and saying, 'Send to Joppa, and call for Simon who is surnamed Peter, And he told us how he had seen the angel stand in his house and say, ‘Send to Joppa and bring Simon who is called Peter; He told us how he had seen an angel appear in his house and say, ‘Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter.
14 who will speak to you words, by which you shall be saved, and all your house.' he will declare to you a message by which you will be saved, you and all your household.’ He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved.’
15 And, as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, as also on us at the beginning; As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as on us at the beginning. “As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning.
16 and I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, 'John, indeed, immersed in water, but ye shall be immersed in the Holy Spirit.' And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ Then I remembered what the Lord had said: ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’
17 If, therefore, God gave them the like gift, as to us who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God?" If then God gave the same gift to them as he gave to us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God’s way?” So if God gave them the same gift he gave us who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could stand in God’s way?”
18 And, having heard these things, they were silent, and glorified God, saying, "Then, to the gentiles also God gave repentance unto life." When they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.” When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, “So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.”
19 Those, therefore, who were dispersed by reason of the tribulation that arose about Stephen, traveled as far as Phoenicia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to none but Jews only. Now those who were scattered because of the persecution that arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except Jews. Now those who had been scattered by the persecution that broke out when Stephen was killed traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, spreading the word only among Jews.
20 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene; who, indeed, having come to Antioch, were speaking to the Greeks also, publishing the glad tidings of the Lord Jesus. But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who on coming to Antioch spoke to the Hellenists also, preaching the Lord Jesus. Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus.
21 And the hand of the Lord was with them; and a great number who believed turned to the Lord. And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number who believed turned to the Lord. The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.
22 And the report concerning them came to the ears of the assembly which was in Jerusalem; and they sent forth Barnabas as far as Antioch; The report of this came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. News of this reached the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch.
23 who, having come, and having seen the grace of God, rejoiced, and was exhorting all that, with purpose of heart, they should cleave to the Lord; When he came and saw the grace of God, he was glad, and he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast purpose, When he arrived and saw what the grace of God had done, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts.
24 because he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit, and of faith; and a great multitude was added to the Lord. for he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord. He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord.
25 And he departed to Tarsus to seek for Saul; So Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul,
26 and, having found him, he brought him to Antioch. And it came to pass that, even for a whole year, they met together in the assembly, and taught a great multitude; and that the disciples got the name "Christian" first in Antioch. and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught a great many people. And in Antioch the disciples were first called Christians. and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.
27 And in those days prophets came from Jerusalem to Antioch; Now in these days prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. During this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.
28 and one of them—Agabus by name—standing up, signified through the Spirit that there was about to be a great famine over all the inhabited earth; which, indeed, happened under Claudius. And one of them named Agabus stood up and foretold by the Spirit that there would be a great famine over all the world (this took place in the days of Claudius). One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world. (This happened during the reign of Claudius.)
29 And the disciples, according as any one of them was being prospered, determined, each of them, to send relief to the brethren dwelling in Judaea; So the disciples determined, every one according to his ability, to send relief to the brothers living in Judea. The disciples, as each one was able, decided to provide help for the brothers and sisters living in Judea.
30 which also they did, sending it to the elders through the hands of Barnabas and Saul. And they did so, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul. This they did, sending their gift to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.
