1 I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is going to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge:
2 Preach the message, be ready whether it is convenient or not, reprove, rebuke, exhort with complete patience and instruction. preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.
3 For there will be a time when people will not tolerate sound teaching. Instead, following their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves, because they have an insatiable curiosity to hear new things. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
4 And they will turn away from hearing the truth, but on the other hand they will turn aside to myths. and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
5 You, however, be self-controlled in all things, endure hardship, do an evangelist's work, fulfill your ministry. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
