7 So honor will come to you who believe; but for the unbelieving, The stone that the builders rejected — this one has become the cornerstone, So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,” Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,”
8 and A stone to stumble over, and a rock to trip over. They stumble because they disobey the word; they were destined for this. and “A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.” They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do. and, “A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for.
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 12 Conduct yourselves honorably among the Gentiles, so that when they slander you as evildoers, they will observe your good works and will glorify God on the day he visits. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

18 Household slaves, submit to your masters with all reverence not only to the good and gentle ones but also to the cruel. 19 For it brings favor if, because of a consciousness of God, someone endures grief from suffering unjustly. For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly. For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God.
20 For what credit is there if when you do wrong and are beaten, you endure it? But when you do what is good and suffer, if you endure it, this brings favor with God. For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God. But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.
21 For you were called to this, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.
