1 When any of you has a legal dispute with another, does he dare go to court before the unrighteous rather than before the saints? When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints? If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord’s people?
2 Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you not competent to settle trivial suits? Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?
3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? Why not ordinary matters! Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life! Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!
4 So if you have ordinary lawsuits, do you appoint as judges those who have no standing in the church? So if you have such cases, why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the church? Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, do you ask for a ruling from those whose way of life is scorned in the church?
5 I say this to your shame! Is there no one among you wise enough to settle disputes between fellow Christians? I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers, I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers?
6 Instead, does a Christian sue a Christian, and do this before unbelievers? but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers? But instead, one brother takes another to court—and this in front of unbelievers!
7 The fact that you have lawsuits among yourselves demonstrates that you have already been defeated. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?
8 But you yourselves wrong and cheat, and you do this to your brothers and sisters! But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even your own brothers! Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers and sisters.
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners, practicing homosexuals, Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men
10 thieves, the greedy, drunkards, the verbally abusive, and swindlers will not inherit the kingdom of God. nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
11 Some of you once lived this way. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. And such were some of you. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
14 Now God indeed raised the Lord and he will raise us by his power. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also.
15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Should I take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never!
16 Or do you not know that anyone who is united with a prostitute is one body with her? For it is said, |The two will become one flesh.| Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”
17 But the one united with the Lord is one spirit with him. But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.
18 Flee sexual immorality! |Every sin a person commits is outside of the body|--but the immoral person sins against his own body. Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
20 For you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body. for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
