1 For I do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea.

7 Neither be ye idolaters, as some of them were; as has been written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and arose up to play. Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.” Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.”
8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed fornication, and fell in one day twenty-three thousand. We must not indulge in sexual immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day. We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died.
9 Neither let us tempt the Lord, as some of them tempted Him, and were destroyed by serpents. We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents, We should not test Christ, as some of them did—and were killed by snakes.
10 Neither murmur, as some of them murmured, and were destroyed by the destroyer. nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer. And do not grumble, as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel.
11 But these things happened unto them as examples; and were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have descended. Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come. These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come.
12 So let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he may fall. Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!
13 No temptation has overtaken you, except that which is human: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above what you are able, but with the temptation, He will also make a way of escape, in order that you may be able to bear it. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
14 Therefore, my beloved, fly from idolatry. Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.
15 As I speak to the wise; judge ye what I say. I speak as to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. I speak to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say.
16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?
17 Because we, being many, are one bread, one body: for we all partake of one bread. Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread. Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all share the one loaf.
18 See Israel after the flesh: are not all eating the sacrifices communicants of the altar? Consider the people of Israel: are not those who eat the sacrifices participants in the altar? Consider the people of Israel: Do not those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar?
19 Then what do I say? that idolatry is anything? or that an idol is anything? What do I imply then? That food offered to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? Do I mean then that food sacrificed to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything?
20 But those things which they sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God. But I do not wish you to be the communicants of demons. No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons. No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons.
21 You are not able to drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of demons: you are not able to partake of the table of the Lord, and the table of demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.
22 Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? whether are we stronger than he? Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he? Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy? Are we stronger than he?
23 All things are lawful; but all things are not profitable. All things are lawful; but all things do not edify. “All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up. “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything|—but not everything is constructive.
24 Let no one seek his own, but that of another. Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.
25 Eat everything which is sold in market, asking no questions on account of conscience; Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience. Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience,
26 for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness of the same. For “the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.” for, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”
27 If any one of the unbelievers invite you, and you wish to go; eat everything which is placed before you, asking no questions on account of conscience. If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscience. If an unbeliever invites you to a meal and you want to go, eat whatever is put before you without raising questions of conscience.
28 But if any one may say to you; This is offered to an idol, eat not, on account of him who gave the information, and his conscience. But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for the sake of conscience— But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, both for the sake of the one who told you and for the sake of conscience.
29 But I say the conscience not of himself, but of the other one. For why is my liberty judged by the conscience of another? I do not mean your conscience, but his. For why should my liberty be determined by someone else’s conscience? I am referring to the other person’s conscience, not yours. For why is my freedom being judged by another’s conscience?
30 If I partake with grace, why am I traduced for that over which I give thanks? If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of that for which I give thanks? If I take part in the meal with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of something I thank God for?
31 Then whether you eat, or whether you drink, or what you do, do all things to the glory of God. So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
32 Be ye without offence, both to Jews, and to Greeks, and to the church of God: Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God—
33 as I also please all in all things, seeking not my own profit, but that of the many, that they may be saved. just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved. even as I try to please everyone in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.
