New Living TranslationNew American Standard Bible 1995
Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb.1Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave.
Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it.2And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it.
His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow.3And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow.
The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint.4The guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men.
Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.5The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified.
He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.6"He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.
And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you.”7"Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you."
The women ran quickly from the tomb. They were very frightened but also filled with great joy, and they rushed to give the disciples the angel’s message.8And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples.
And as they went, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they ran to him, grasped his feet, and worshiped him.9And behold, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him.
Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t be afraid! Go tell my brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see me there.” The Report of the Guard10Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid; go and take word to My brethren to leave for Galilee, and there they will see Me."
As the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and told the leading priests what had happened.11Now while they were on their way, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all that had happened.
A meeting with the elders was called, and they decided to give the soldiers a large bribe.12And when they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers,
They told the soldiers, “You must say, ‘Jesus’ disciples came during the night while we were sleeping, and they stole his body.’13and said, "You are to say, 'His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were asleep.'
If the governor hears about it, we’ll stand up for you so you won’t get in trouble.”14"And if this should come to the governor's ears, we will win him over and keep you out of trouble."
So the guards accepted the bribe and said what they were told to say. Their story spread widely among the Jews, and they still tell it today. The Great Commission15And they took the money and did as they had been instructed; and this story was widely spread among the Jews, and is to this day.
Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.16But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated.
When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted!17When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful.
Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.18And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.19"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”20teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
