Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb.1In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it.2And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow.3His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint.4And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.5And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.6He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you.”7And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
The women ran quickly from the tomb. They were very frightened but also filled with great joy, and they rushed to give the disciples the angel’s message.8And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
And as they went, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they ran to him, grasped his feet, and worshiped him.9And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.
Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t be afraid! Go tell my brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see me there.” The Report of the Guard10Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.
As the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and told the leading priests what had happened.11Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done.
A meeting with the elders was called, and they decided to give the soldiers a large bribe.12And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,
They told the soldiers, “You must say, ‘Jesus’ disciples came during the night while we were sleeping, and they stole his body.’13Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.
If the governor hears about it, we’ll stand up for you so you won’t get in trouble.”14And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and secure you.
So the guards accepted the bribe and said what they were told to say. Their story spread widely among the Jews, and they still tell it today. The Great Commission15So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.16Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted!17And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.18And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
