Psalm 42
NLT Parallel KJV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationKing James Bible
1As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God.1To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah. As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
2I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him?2My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
3Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, “Where is this God of yours?”3My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?
4My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration!4When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.
5Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and5Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
6my God! Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember you— even from distant Mount Hermon, the source of the Jordan, from the land of Mount Mizar.6O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.
7I hear the tumult of the raging seas as your waves and surging tides sweep over me.7Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.
8But each day the LORD pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life.8Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.
9“O God my rock,” I cry, “why have you forgotten me? Why must I wander around in grief, oppressed by my enemies?”9I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
10Their taunts break my bones. They scoff, “Where is this God of yours?”10As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God?
11Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!11Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
