New Living Translation | English Standard Version |
Praise the LORD! Praise the name of the LORD! Praise him, you who serve the LORD, | 1Praise the LORD! Praise the name of the LORD, give praise, O servants of the LORD, |
you who serve in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God. | 2who stand in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God! |
Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; celebrate his lovely name with music. | 3Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; sing to his name, for it is pleasant! |
For the LORD has chosen Jacob for himself, Israel for his own special treasure. | 4For the LORD has chosen Jacob for himself, Israel as his own possession. |
I know the greatness of the LORD— that our Lord is greater than any other god. | 5For I know that the LORD is great, and that our Lord is above all gods. |
The LORD does whatever pleases him throughout all heaven and earth, and on the seas and in their depths. | 6Whatever the LORD pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps. |
He causes the clouds to rise over the whole earth. He sends the lightning with the rain and releases the wind from his storehouses. | 7He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth, who makes lightnings for the rain and brings forth the wind from his storehouses. |
He destroyed the firstborn in each Egyptian home, both people and animals. | 8He it was who struck down the firstborn of Egypt, both of man and of beast; |
He performed miraculous signs and wonders in Egypt against Pharaoh and all his people. | 9who in your midst, O Egypt, sent signs and wonders against Pharaoh and all his servants; |
He struck down great nations and slaughtered mighty kings— | 10who struck down many nations and killed mighty kings, |
Sihon king of the Amorites, Og king of Bashan, and all the kings of Canaan. | 11Sihon, king of the Amorites, and Og, king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan, |
He gave their land as an inheritance, a special possession to his people Israel. | 12and gave their land as a heritage, a heritage to his people Israel. |
Your name, O LORD, endures forever; your fame, O LORD, is known to every generation. | 13Your name, O LORD, endures forever, your renown, O LORD, throughout all ages. |
For the LORD will give justice to his people and have compassion on his servants. | 14For the LORD will vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants. |
The idols of the nations are merely things of silver and gold, shaped by human hands. | 15The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of human hands. |
They have mouths but cannot speak, and eyes but cannot see. | 16They have mouths, but do not speak; they have eyes, but do not see; |
They have ears but cannot hear, and mouths but cannot breathe. | 17they have ears, but do not hear, nor is there any breath in their mouths. |
And those who make idols are just like them, as are all who trust in them. | 18Those who make them become like them, so do all who trust in them. |
O Israel, praise the LORD! O priests—descendants of Aaron—praise the LORD! | 19O house of Israel, bless the LORD! O house of Aaron, bless the LORD! |
O Levites, praise the LORD! All you who fear the LORD, praise the LORD! | 20O house of Levi, bless the LORD! You who fear the LORD, bless the LORD! |
The LORD be praised from Zion, for he lives here in Jerusalem. Praise the LORD! | 21Blessed be the LORD from Zion, he who dwells in Jerusalem! Praise the LORD! |
