To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD. An oracle within my heart concerning the transgression of the wicked: There is no fear of God before his eyes. | 1For the director of music. Of David the servant of the LORD. I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes. |
For he flatters himself in his own eyes, When he finds out his iniquity and when he hates. | 2In their own eyes they flatter themselves too much to detect or hate their sin. |
The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit; He has ceased to be wise and to do good. | 3The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful; they fail to act wisely or do good. |
He devises wickedness on his bed; He sets himself in a way that is not good; He does not abhor evil. | 4Even on their beds they plot evil; they commit themselves to a sinful course and do not reject what is wrong. |
Your mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. | 5Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. |
Your righteousness is like the great mountains; Your judgments are a great deep; O LORD, You preserve man and beast. | 6Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, LORD, preserve both people and animals. |
How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. | 7How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. |
They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house, And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures. | 8They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. |
For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light. | 9For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. |
Oh, continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You, And Your righteousness to the upright in heart. | 10Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart. |
Let not the foot of pride come against me, And let not the hand of the wicked drive me away. | 11May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. |
There the workers of iniquity have fallen; They have been cast down and are not able to rise. | 12See how the evildoers lie fallen-- thrown down, not able to rise! |
