| 1Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, | 1Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin. |

| 12Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; | 12Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. |
| 13but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. | 13But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. |
| 14If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified. | 14If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. |
| 15But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people’s matters. | 15If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. |
| 16Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter. | 16However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. |

| 19Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator. | 19So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good. |
