So these three men ceased answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.1So these three men refused to answer Job further, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
Then the wrath of Elihu, the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was aroused against Job; his wrath was aroused because he justified himself rather than God.2Then Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, became very angry. He was angry with Job for justifying himself rather than God.
Also against his three friends his wrath was aroused, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.3With Job's three friends he was also angry, because they could not find an answer, and so declared Job guilty.
Now because they were years older than he, Elihu had waited to speak to Job.4Now Elihu had waited before speaking to Job, because the others were older than he was.
When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, his wrath was aroused.5But when Elihu saw that the three men had no further reply, he became very angry.
So Elihu, the son of Barachel the Buzite, answered and said: “I am young in years, and you are very old; Therefore I was afraid, And dared not declare my opinion to you.6So Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite spoke up: "I am young, but you are elderly; that is why I was fearful, and afraid to explain to you what I know.
I said, ‘Age should speak, And multitude of years should teach wisdom.’7I said to myself, 'Age should speak, and length of years should make wisdom known.'
But there is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.8But it is a spirit in people, the breath of the Almighty, that makes them understand.
Great men are not always wise, Nor do the aged always understand justice.9It is not the aged who are wise, nor old men who understand what is right.
“Therefore I say, ‘Listen to me, I also will declare my opinion.’10Therefore I say, 'Listen to me. I, even I, will explain what I know.'
Indeed I waited for your words, I listened to your reasonings, while you searched out what to say.11Look, I waited for you to speak; I listened closely to your wise thoughts, while you were searching for words.
I paid close attention to you; And surely not one of you convinced Job, Or answered his words—12Now I was paying you close attention, yet there was no one proving Job wrong, not one of you was answering his statements!
Lest you say, ‘We have found wisdom’; God will vanquish him, not man.13So do not say, 'We have found wisdom! God will refute him, not man!'
Now he has not directed his words against me; So I will not answer him with your words.14Job has not directed his words to me, and so I will not reply to him with your arguments.
“They are dismayed and answer no more; Words escape them.15"They are dismayed and cannot answer any more; they have nothing left to say.
And I have waited, because they did not speak, Because they stood still and answered no more.16And I have waited. But because they do not speak, because they stand there and answer no more,
I also will answer my part, I too will declare my opinion.17I too will answer my part, I too will explain what I know.
For I am full of words; The spirit within me compels me.18For I am full of words, and the spirit within me constrains me.
Indeed my belly is like wine that has no vent; It is ready to burst like new wineskins.19Inside I am like wine which has no outlet, like new wineskins ready to burst!
I will speak, that I may find relief; I must open my lips and answer.20I will speak, so that I may find relief; I will open my lips, so that I may answer.
Let me not, I pray, show partiality to anyone; Nor let me flatter any man.21I will not show partiality to anyone, nor will I confer a title on any man.
For I do not know how to flatter, Else my Maker would soon take me away.22for I do not know how to give honorary titles, if I did, my Creator would quickly do away with me.
