So these three men ceased answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.1So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
Then the wrath of Elihu, the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was aroused against Job; his wrath was aroused because he justified himself rather than God.2Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.
Also against his three friends his wrath was aroused, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.3Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.
Now because they were years older than he, Elihu had waited to speak to Job.4Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he.
When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, his wrath was aroused.5When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was kindled.
So Elihu, the son of Barachel the Buzite, answered and said: “I am young in years, and you are very old; Therefore I was afraid, And dared not declare my opinion to you.6And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I was afraid, and durst not shew you mine opinion.
I said, ‘Age should speak, And multitude of years should teach wisdom.’7I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.
But there is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.8But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.
Great men are not always wise, Nor do the aged always understand justice.9Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.
“Therefore I say, ‘Listen to me, I also will declare my opinion.’10Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will shew mine opinion.
Indeed I waited for your words, I listened to your reasonings, while you searched out what to say.11Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasons, whilst ye searched out what to say.
I paid close attention to you; And surely not one of you convinced Job, Or answered his words—12Yea, I attended unto you, and, behold, there was none of you that convinced Job, or that answered his words:
Lest you say, ‘We have found wisdom’; God will vanquish him, not man.13Lest ye should say, We have found out wisdom: God thrusteth him down, not man.
Now he has not directed his words against me; So I will not answer him with your words.14Now he hath not directed his words against me: neither will I answer him with your speeches.
“They are dismayed and answer no more; Words escape them.15They were amazed, they answered no more: they left off speaking.
And I have waited, because they did not speak, Because they stood still and answered no more.16When I had waited, (for they spake not, but stood still, and answered no more;)
I also will answer my part, I too will declare my opinion.17I said, I will answer also my part, I also will shew mine opinion.
For I am full of words; The spirit within me compels me.18For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constraineth me.
Indeed my belly is like wine that has no vent; It is ready to burst like new wineskins.19Behold, my belly is as wine which hath no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles.
I will speak, that I may find relief; I must open my lips and answer.20I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer.
Let me not, I pray, show partiality to anyone; Nor let me flatter any man.21Let me not, I pray you, accept any man's person, neither let me give flattering titles unto man.
For I do not know how to flatter, Else my Maker would soon take me away.22For I know not to give flattering titles; in so doing my maker would soon take me away.
