| 1Now Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in. | 1Now Jericho was strongly fortified because of the Israelites--no one leaving or entering. |
| 2And the LORD said to Joshua: “See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor. | 2The LORD said to Joshua, "Look, I have handed Jericho, its king, and its fighting men over to you. |
| 3You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do six days. | 3March around the city with all the men of war, circling the city one time. Do this for six days. |
| 4And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. | 4Have seven priests carry seven ram's-horn trumpets in front of the ark. But on the seventh day, march around the city seven times, while the priests blow the trumpets. |
| 5It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him.” | 5When there is a prolonged blast of the horn and you hear its sound, have all the people give a mighty shout. | 18And you, by all means abstain from the accursed things, lest you become accursed when you take of the accursed things, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it. | 18But keep yourselves from the things set apart, or you will be set apart for destruction. If you take any of those things, you will set apart the camp of Israel for destruction and bring disaster on it. |
| 19But all the silver and gold, and vessels of bronze and iron, are consecrated to the LORD; they shall come into the treasury of the LORD.” | 19For all the silver and gold, and the articles of bronze and iron, are dedicated to the LORD and must go into the LORD's treasury." |
| 20So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. Then the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. | 20So the people shouted, and the trumpets sounded. When they heard the blast of the trumpet, the people gave a great shout, and the wall collapsed. The people advanced into the city, each man straight ahead, and they captured the city. |

| 26Then Joshua charged them at that time, saying, “Cursed be the man before the LORD who rises up and builds this city Jericho; he shall lay its foundation with his firstborn, and with his youngest he shall set up its gates.” | 26At that time Joshua imposed this curse: The man who undertakes the rebuilding of this city, Jericho, is cursed before the LORD. He will lay its foundation at the cost of his firstborn; he will set up its gates at the cost of his youngest. |
