Psalm 42
NIV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New International VersionNew Living Translation
1For the director of music. A maskil of the Sons of Korah. As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.1As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God.
2My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?2I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him?
3My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, "Where is your God?"3Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, “Where is this God of yours?”
4These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng.4My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration!
5Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.5Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and
6My soul is downcast within me; therefore I will remember you from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon--from Mount Mizar.6my God! Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember you— even from distant Mount Hermon, the source of the Jordan, from the land of Mount Mizar.
7Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.7I hear the tumult of the raging seas as your waves and surging tides sweep over me.
8By day the LORD directs his love, at night his song is with me-- a prayer to the God of my life.8But each day the LORD pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life.
9I say to God my Rock, "Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?"9“O God my rock,” I cry, “why have you forgotten me? Why must I wander around in grief, oppressed by my enemies?”
10My bones suffer mortal agony as my foes taunt me, saying to me all day long, "Where is your God?"10Their taunts break my bones. They scoff, “Where is this God of yours?”
11Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.11Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!
