New International VersionNET Bible
For the director of music. A psalm of David. Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the LORD delivers them in times of trouble.1For the music director; a psalm of David. How blessed is the one who treats the poor properly! When trouble comes, the LORD delivers him.
The LORD protects and preserves them-- they are counted among the blessed in the land-- he does not give them over to the desire of their foes.2May the LORD protect him and save his life! May he be blessed in the land! Do not turn him over to his enemies!
The LORD sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness.3The LORD supports him on his sickbed; you completely heal him from his illness.
I said, "Have mercy on me, LORD; heal me, for I have sinned against you."4As for me, I said: "O LORD, have mercy on me! Heal me, for I have sinned against you!
My enemies say of me in malice, "When will he die and his name perish?"5My enemies ask this cruel question about me, 'When will he finally die and be forgotten?'
When one of them comes to see me, he speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander; then he goes out and spreads it around.6When someone comes to visit, he pretends to be friendly; he thinks of ways to defame me, and when he leaves he slanders me.
All my enemies whisper together against me; they imagine the worst for me, saying,7All who hate me whisper insults about me to one another; they plan ways to harm me.
"A vile disease has afflicted him; he will never get up from the place where he lies."8They say, 'An awful disease overwhelms him, and now that he is bed-ridden he will never recover.'
Even my close friend, someone I trusted, one who shared my bread, has turned against me.9Even my close friend whom I trusted, he who shared meals with me, has turned against me.
But may you have mercy on me, LORD; raise me up, that I may repay them.10As for you, O LORD, have mercy on me and raise me up, so I can pay them back!"
I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.11By this I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.
Because of my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever.12As for me, you uphold me because of my integrity; you allow me permanent access to your presence.
Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.13The LORD God of Israel deserves praise in the future and forevermore! We agree! We agree!
