New International Version | King James Bible |
Then I looked up, and there before me was a man with a measuring line in his hand. | 1I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand. |
I asked, "Where are you going?" He answered me, "To measure Jerusalem, to find out how wide and how long it is." | 2Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof. |
While the angel who was speaking to me was leaving, another angel came to meet him | 3And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him, |
and said to him: "Run, tell that young man, 'Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of people and animals in it. | 4And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein: |
And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,' declares the LORD, 'and I will be its glory within.' | 5For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her. |
"Come! Come! Flee from the land of the north," declares the LORD, "for I have scattered you to the four winds of heaven," declares the LORD. | 6Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the LORD: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the LORD. |
"Come, Zion! Escape, you who live in Daughter Babylon!" | 7Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon. |
For this is what the LORD Almighty says: "After the Glorious One has sent me against the nations that have plundered you--for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye-- | 8For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye. |
I will surely raise my hand against them so that their slaves will plunder them. Then you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me. | 9For, behold, I will shake mine hand upon them, and they shall be a spoil to their servants: and ye shall know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me. |
"Shout and be glad, Daughter Zion. For I am coming, and I will live among you," declares the LORD. | 10Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD. |
"Many nations will be joined with the LORD in that day and will become my people. I will live among you and you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me to you. | 11And many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto thee. |
The LORD will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land and will again choose Jerusalem. | 12And the LORD shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again. |
Be still before the LORD, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling." | 13Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation. |
