For the director of music. To the tune of "The Lilies of the Covenant." Of Asaph. A psalm. Hear us, Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock. You who sit enthroned between the cherubim, shine forth | 1Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock. You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth. |
before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh. Awaken your might; come and save us. | 2Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up your might and come to save us! |
Restore us, O God; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved. | 3Restore us, O God; let your face shine, that we may be saved! |
How long, LORD God Almighty, will your anger smolder against the prayers of your people? | 4O LORD God of hosts, how long will you be angry with your people’s prayers? |
You have fed them with the bread of tears; you have made them drink tears by the bowlful. | 5You have fed them with the bread of tears and given them tears to drink in full measure. |
You have made us an object of derision to our neighbors, and our enemies mock us. | 6You make us an object of contention for our neighbors, and our enemies laugh among themselves. |
Restore us, God Almighty; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved. | 7Restore us, O God of hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved! |
You transplanted a vine from Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it. | 8You brought a vine out of Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it. |
You cleared the ground for it, and it took root and filled the land. | 9You cleared the ground for it; it took deep root and filled the land. |
The mountains were covered with its shade, the mighty cedars with its branches. | 10The mountains were covered with its shade, the mighty cedars with its branches. |
Its branches reached as far as the Sea, its shoots as far as the River. | 11It sent out its branches to the sea and its shoots to the River. |
Why have you broken down its walls so that all who pass by pick its grapes? | 12Why then have you broken down its walls, so that all who pass along the way pluck its fruit? |
Boars from the forest ravage it, and insects from the fields feed on it. | 13The boar from the forest ravages it, and all that move in the field feed on it. |
Return to us, God Almighty! Look down from heaven and see! Watch over this vine, | 14Turn again, O God of hosts! Look down from heaven, and see; have regard for this vine, |
the root your right hand has planted, the son you have raised up for yourself. | 15the stock that your right hand planted, and for the son whom you made strong for yourself. |
Your vine is cut down, it is burned with fire; at your rebuke your people perish. | 16They have burned it with fire; they have cut it down; may they perish at the rebuke of your face! |
Let your hand rest on the man at your right hand, the son of man you have raised up for yourself. | 17But let your hand be on the man of your right hand, the son of man whom you have made strong for yourself! |
Then we will not turn away from you; revive us, and we will call on your name. | 18Then we shall not turn back from you; give us life, and we will call upon your name! |
Restore us, LORD God Almighty; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved. | 19Restore us, O LORD God of hosts! Let your face shine, that we may be saved! |
