But as for you, communicate the behavior that goes with sound teaching.1You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine.
Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in endurance.2Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
Older women likewise are to exhibit behavior fitting for those who are holy, not slandering, not slaves to excessive drinking, but teaching what is good.3Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good.
In this way they will train the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children,4Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children,
to be self-controlled, pure, fulfilling their duties at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the message of God may not be discredited.5to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.
Encourage younger men likewise to be self-controlled,6Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled.
showing yourself to be an example of good works in every way. In your teaching show integrity, dignity,7In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness
and a sound message that cannot be criticized, so that any opponent will be at a loss, because he has nothing evil to say about us.8and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
Slaves are to be subject to their own masters in everything, to do what is wanted and not talk back,9Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them,
not pilfering, but showing all good faith, in order to bring credit to the teaching of God our Savior in everything. 10and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people.11For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.
It trains us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,12It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,
as we wait for the happy fulfillment of our hope in the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.13while we wait for the blessed hope--the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,
He gave himself for us to set us free from every kind of lawlessness and to purify for himself a people who are truly his, who are eager to do good.14who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
So communicate these things with the sort of exhortation or rebuke that carries full authority. Don't let anyone look down on you. 15These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.
