But as for you, communicate the behavior that goes with sound teaching.1But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.
Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in endurance.2Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness.
Older women likewise are to exhibit behavior fitting for those who are holy, not slandering, not slaves to excessive drinking, but teaching what is good.3Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good,
In this way they will train the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children,4and so train the young women to love their husbands and children,
to be self-controlled, pure, fulfilling their duties at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the message of God may not be discredited.5to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.
Encourage younger men likewise to be self-controlled,6Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled.
showing yourself to be an example of good works in every way. In your teaching show integrity, dignity,7Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity,
and a sound message that cannot be criticized, so that any opponent will be at a loss, because he has nothing evil to say about us.8and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.
Slaves are to be subject to their own masters in everything, to do what is wanted and not talk back,9Bondservants are to be submissive to their own masters in everything; they are to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,
not pilfering, but showing all good faith, in order to bring credit to the teaching of God our Savior in everything. 10not pilfering, but showing all good faith, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people.11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,
It trains us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,12training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
as we wait for the happy fulfillment of our hope in the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.13waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
He gave himself for us to set us free from every kind of lawlessness and to purify for himself a people who are truly his, who are eager to do good.14who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.
So communicate these things with the sort of exhortation or rebuke that carries full authority. Don't let anyone look down on you. 15Declare these things; exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you.
