But as for you, communicate the behavior that goes with sound teaching.1But as for you, speak the things that are consistent with sound doctrine.
Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in endurance.2Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, and sound in faith, love, and perseverance.
Older women likewise are to exhibit behavior fitting for those who are holy, not slandering, not slaves to excessive drinking, but teaching what is good.3Older women, likewise, are to be reverent in their behavior, not slanderers or addicted to much wine, but teachers of good.
In this way they will train the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children,4In this way they can train the young women to love their husbands and children,
to be self-controlled, pure, fulfilling their duties at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the message of God may not be discredited.5to be self-controlled, pure, managers of their households, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be discredited.
Encourage younger men likewise to be self-controlled,6In the same way, urge the younger men to be self-controlled.
showing yourself to be an example of good works in every way. In your teaching show integrity, dignity,7In everything, show yourself to be an example by doing good works. In your teaching show integrity, dignity,
and a sound message that cannot be criticized, so that any opponent will be at a loss, because he has nothing evil to say about us.8and wholesome speech that is above reproach, so that anyone who opposes us will be ashamed to have nothing bad to say about us.
Slaves are to be subject to their own masters in everything, to do what is wanted and not talk back,9Slaves are to submit to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,
not pilfering, but showing all good faith, in order to bring credit to the teaching of God our Savior in everything. 10not stealing from them, but showing all good faith, so that in every respect they will adorn the teaching about God our Savior.
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people.11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to everyone.
It trains us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,12It instructs us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
as we wait for the happy fulfillment of our hope in the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.13as we await the blessed hope and glorious appearance of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.
He gave himself for us to set us free from every kind of lawlessness and to purify for himself a people who are truly his, who are eager to do good.14He gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
So communicate these things with the sort of exhortation or rebuke that carries full authority. Don't let anyone look down on you. 15Speak these things as you encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.
