Psalm 38
NET Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleInternational Standard Version
A psalm of David, written to get God's attention. O LORD, do not continue to rebuke me in your anger! Do not continue to punish me in your raging fury! 1LORD! Do not rebuke me in your anger; do not correct me in your wrath,
For your arrows pierce me, and your hand presses me down. 2because your arrows have sunk deep into me, and your hand has come down hard on me.
My whole body is sick because of your judgment; I am deprived of health because of my sin. 3My body is unhealthy due to your anger, and my bones have no rest due to my sin.
For my sins overwhelm me; like a heavy load, they are too much for me to bear. 4My iniquities loom over my head; like a cumbersome burden, they are too heavy for me.
My wounds are infected and starting to smell, because of my foolish sins. 5My wounds have putrefied and festered because of my foolishness.
I am dazed and completely humiliated; all day long I walk around mourning. 6I am bent over and walk about greatly bowed down; all day long I go around mourning.
For I am overcome with shame and my whole body is sick. 7My insides are burning and my body is unhealthy.
I am numb with pain and severely battered; I groan loudly because of the anxiety I feel. 8I am weak and utterly crushed; I cry out in distress because of my heart's anguish.
O Lord, you understand my heart's desire; my groaning is not hidden from you. 9Lord, all my longings are before you, and my groaning is not hidden from you.
My heart beats quickly; my strength leaves me; I can hardly see. 10My heart pounds, my strength fails me, even the gleam in my eye is gone.
Because of my condition, even my friends and acquaintances keep their distance; my neighbors stand far away. 11As for my friends and my neighbors, they stand aloof from my distress; even my close relatives stand at a distance.
Those who seek my life try to entrap me; those who want to harm me speak destructive words; all day long they say deceitful things. 12Those who seek my life lay snares for me; those who seek to do me harm brag all day long about their wicked planning.
But I am like a deaf man--I hear nothing; I am like a mute who cannot speak. 13I am like the deaf, who cannot hear, and like the mute, who cannot open his mouth.
I am like a man who cannot hear and is incapable of arguing his defense. 14Indeed, I have become like a man who hears nothing, and in whose mouth there is no rebuke.
Yet I wait for you, O LORD! You will respond, O Lord, my God! 15Because I have placed my hope in you, LORD, you will answer, Lord, my God.
I have prayed for deliverance, because otherwise they will gloat over me; when my foot slips they will arrogantly taunt me. 16For I said, "Do not let them gloat over me, as they congratulate themselves when my foot slips."
For I am about to stumble, and I am in constant pain. 17Indeed, I am being set up for a fall, and I am continuously reminded of my pain.
Yes, I confess my wrongdoing, and I am concerned about my sins. 18I confess my iniquity, and my sin troubles me.
But those who are my enemies for no reason are numerous; those who hate me without cause outnumber me. 19But my enemies are alive and well; those who hate me for no reason are numerous.
They repay me evil for the good I have done; though I have tried to do good to them, they hurl accusations at me. 20They reward my good with evil, opposing me because I seek to do good.
Do not abandon me, O LORD! My God, do not remain far away from me! 21Don't forsake me, LORD. My God, do not be so distant from me.
Hurry and help me, O Lord, my deliverer! 22Come quickly and help me, Lord, my deliverer.
