By David. The LORD, my protector, deserves praise--the one who trains my hands for battle, and my fingers for war, | 1Blessed be the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for battle and my fingers for warfare, |
who loves me and is my stronghold, my refuge and my deliverer, my shield and the one in whom I take shelter, who makes nations submit to me. | 2he is my gracious love and my fortress, my strong tower and my deliverer, my shield and the one in whom I find refuge, who subdues peoples under me. |
O LORD, of what importance is the human race, that you should notice them? Of what importance is mankind, that you should be concerned about them? | 3LORD, what are human beings, that you should care about them, or mortal man, that you should think about him? |
People are like a vapor, their days like a shadow that disappears. | 4The human person is a mere empty breath; his days are like a fading shadow. |
O LORD, make the sky sink and come down! Touch the mountains and make them smolder! | 5Bow your heavens, LORD, and descend; touch the mountains, and they will smolder. |
Hurl lightning bolts and scatter them! Shoot your arrows and rout them! | 6Send forth lightning and scatter the enemy, shoot your arrows and confuse them. |
Reach down from above! Grab me and rescue me from the surging water, from the power of foreigners, | 7Reach down your hand from your high place; rescue me and deliver me from mighty waters, from the control of foreigners. |
who speak lies, and make false promises. | 8Their mouths speak lies, and their right hand deceives, |
O God, I will sing a new song to you! Accompanied by a ten-stringed instrument, I will sing praises to you, | 9God, I will sing a new song to you. On a harp of ten strings I will play to you— |
the one who delivers kings, and rescued David his servant from a deadly sword. | 10to you who gives victory to kings, rescuing his servant David from cruel swords. |
Grab me and rescue me from the power of foreigners, who speak lies, and make false promises. | 11Rescue me and deliver me from the control of foreigners, whose mouths speak lies, and whose right hand deceives. |
Then our sons will be like plants, that quickly grow to full size. Our daughters will be like corner pillars, carved like those in a palace. | 12May our sons in their youth be like full-grown plants, and our daughters like pillars destined to decorate a palace. |
Our storehouses will be full, providing all kinds of food. Our sheep will multiply by the thousands and fill our pastures. | 13May our granaries be filled, storing produce in abundance; may our sheep bring forth thousands, even tens of thousands in our fields. |
Our cattle will be weighted down with produce. No one will break through our walls, no one will be taken captive, and there will be no terrified cries in our city squares. | 14May our cattle grow heavy with young, with no damage or loss. May there be no cry of anguish in our streets! |
How blessed are the people who experience these things! How blessed are the people whose God is the LORD! | 15Happy are the people to whom these things come; happy are the people whose God is the LORD. |
