1A song of ascents, by David. "If the LORD had not been on our side"--let Israel say this!--1שִׁ֥יר הַֽמַּעֲל֗וֹת לְדָ֫וִ֥ד לוּלֵ֣י יְ֭הוָה שֶׁהָ֣יָה לָ֑נוּ יֹֽאמַר־ נָ֝א יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
2if the LORD had not been on our side, when men attacked us, 2לוּלֵ֣י יְ֭הוָה שֶׁהָ֣יָה לָ֑נוּ בְּק֖וּם עָלֵ֣ינוּ אָדָֽם׃
3they would have swallowed us alive, when their anger raged against us. 3אֲ֭זַי חַיִּ֣ים בְּלָע֑וּנוּ בַּחֲר֖וֹת אַפָּ֣ם בָּֽנוּ׃
4The water would have overpowered us; the current would have overwhelmed us. 4אֲ֭זַי הַמַּ֣יִם שְׁטָפ֑וּנוּ נַ֗֜חְלָה‪‬ עָבַ֥ר עַל־ נַפְשֵֽׁנוּ׃
5The raging water would have overwhelmed us. 5אֲ֭זַי עָבַ֣ר עַל־ נַפְשֵׁ֑נוּ הַ֝מַּ֗יִם הַזֵּֽידוֹנִֽים׃
6The LORD deserves praise, for he did not hand us over as prey to their teeth. 6בָּר֥וּךְ יְהוָ֑ה שֶׁלֹּ֥א נְתָנָ֥נוּ טֶ֝֗רֶף לְשִׁנֵּיהֶֽם׃
7We escaped with our lives, like a bird from a hunter's snare. The snare broke, and we escaped. 7נַפְשֵׁ֗נוּ כְּצִפּ֥וֹר נִמְלְטָה֮ מִפַּ֪ח י֫וֹקְשִׁ֥ים הַפַּ֥ח נִשְׁבָּ֗ר וַאֲנַ֥חְנוּ נִמְלָֽטְנוּ׃
8Our deliverer is the LORD, the Creator of heaven and earth. 8עֶ֭זְרֵנוּ בְּשֵׁ֣ם יְהוָ֑ה עֹ֝שֵׂ֗ה שָׁמַ֥יִם וָאָֽרֶץ׃
