NET BibleEnglish Standard Version
As I watched, I saw on the platform above the top of the cherubim something like a sapphire, resembling the shape of a throne, appearing above them.1Then I looked, and behold, on the expanse that was over the heads of the cherubim there appeared above them something like a sapphire, in appearance like a throne.
The LORD said to the man dressed in linen, "Go between the wheelwork underneath the cherubim. Fill your hands with burning coals from among the cherubim and scatter them over the city." He went as I watched. 2And he said to the man clothed in linen, “Go in among the whirling wheels underneath the cherubim. Fill your hands with burning coals from between the cherubim, and scatter them over the city.” And he went in before my eyes.
(The cherubim were standing on the south side of the temple when the man went in, and a cloud filled the inner court.)3Now the cherubim were standing on the south side of the house, when the man went in, and a cloud filled the inner court.
Then the glory of the LORD arose from the cherub and moved to the threshold of the temple. The temple was filled with the cloud while the court was filled with the brightness of the LORD's glory.4And the glory of the LORD went up from the cherub to the threshold of the house, and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was filled with the brightness of the glory of the LORD.
The sound of the wings of the cherubim could be heard from the outer court, like the sound of the sovereign God when he speaks. 5And the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard as far as the outer court, like the voice of God Almighty when he speaks.
When the LORD commanded the man dressed in linen, "Take fire from within the wheelwork, from among the cherubim," the man went in and stood by one of the wheels.6And when he commanded the man clothed in linen, “Take fire from between the whirling wheels, from between the cherubim,” he went in and stood beside a wheel.
Then one of the cherubim stretched out his hand toward the fire which was among the cherubim. He took some and put it into the hands of the man dressed in linen, who took it and left.7And a cherub stretched out his hand from between the cherubim to the fire that was between the cherubim, and took some of it and put it into the hands of the man clothed in linen, who took it and went out.
(The cherubim appeared to have the form of human hands under their wings.) 8The cherubim appeared to have the form of a human hand under their wings.
As I watched, I noticed four wheels by the cherubim, one wheel beside each cherub; the wheels gleamed like jasper.9And I looked, and behold, there were four wheels beside the cherubim, one beside each cherub, and the appearance of the wheels was like sparkling beryl.
As for their appearance, all four of them looked the same, something like a wheel within a wheel.10And as for their appearance, the four had the same likeness, as if a wheel were within a wheel.
When they moved, they would go in any of the four directions they faced without turning as they moved; in the direction the head would turn they would follow without turning as they moved,11When they went, they went in any of their four directions without turning as they went, but in whatever direction the front wheel faced, the others followed without turning as they went.
along with their entire bodies, their backs, their hands, and their wings. The wheels of the four of them were full of eyes all around.12And their whole body, their rims, and their spokes, their wings, and the wheels were full of eyes all around—the wheels that the four of them had.
As for their wheels, they were called "the wheelwork" as I listened.13As for the wheels, they were called in my hearing “the whirling wheels.”
Each of the cherubim had four faces: The first was the face of a cherub, the second that of a man, the third that of a lion, and the fourth that of an eagle. 14And every one had four faces: the first face was the face of the cherub, and the second face was a human face, and the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.
The cherubim rose up; these were the living beings I saw at the Kebar River.15And the cherubim mounted up. These were the living creatures that I saw by the Chebar canal.
When the cherubim moved, the wheels moved beside them; when the cherubim spread their wings to rise from the ground, the wheels did not move from their side.16And when the cherubim went, the wheels went beside them. And when the cherubim lifted up their wings to mount up from the earth, the wheels did not turn from beside them.
When the cherubim stood still, the wheels stood still, and when they rose up, the wheels rose up with them, for the spirit of the living beings was in the wheels. 17When they stood still, these stood still, and when they mounted up, these mounted up with them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in them.
Then the glory of the LORD moved away from the threshold of the temple and stopped above the cherubim.18Then the glory of the LORD went out from the threshold of the house, and stood over the cherubim.
The cherubim spread their wings, and they rose up from the earth while I watched (when they went the wheels went alongside them). They stopped at the entrance to the east gate of the LORD's temple as the glory of the God of Israel hovered above them. 19And the cherubim lifted up their wings and mounted up from the earth before my eyes as they went out, with the wheels beside them. And they stood at the entrance of the east gate of the house of the LORD, and the glory of the God of Israel was over them.
These were the living creatures which I saw at the Kebar River underneath the God of Israel; I knew that they were cherubim.20These were the living creatures that I saw underneath the God of Israel by the Chebar canal; and I knew that they were cherubim.
Each had four faces; each had four wings and the form of human hands under the wings.21Each had four faces, and each four wings, and underneath their wings the likeness of human hands.
As for the form of their faces, they were the faces whose appearance I had seen at the Kebar River. Each one moved straight ahead. 22And as for the likeness of their faces, they were the same faces whose appearance I had seen by the Chebar canal. Each one of them went straight forward.
