New American Standard Bible 1995 | New Living Translation |
For the choir director; on stringed instruments. A Psalm of David. Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Be gracious to me and hear my prayer. | 1Answer me when I call to you, O God who declares me innocent. Free me from my troubles. Have mercy on me and hear my prayer. |
O sons of men, how long will my honor become a reproach? How long will you love what is worthless and aim at deception? Selah. | 2How long will you people ruin my reputation? How long will you make groundless accusations? How long will you continue your lies? Interlude |
But know that the LORD has set apart the godly man for Himself; The LORD hears when I call to Him. | 3You can be sure of this: The LORD set apart the godly for himself. The LORD will answer when I call to him. |
Tremble, and do not sin; Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. | 4Don’t sin by letting anger control you. Think about it overnight and remain silent. Interlude |
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And trust in the LORD. | 5Offer sacrifices in the right spirit, and trust the LORD. |
Many are saying, "Who will show us any good?" Lift up the light of Your countenance upon us, O LORD! | 6Many people say, “Who will show us better times?” Let your face smile on us, LORD. |
You have put gladness in my heart, More than when their grain and new wine abound. | 7You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine. |
In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, O LORD, make me to dwell in safety. | 8In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe. |
