Psalm 2
NASB Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995New Living Translation
Why are the nations in an uproar And the peoples devising a vain thing?1Why are the nations so angry? Why do they waste their time with futile plans?
The kings of the earth take their stand And the rulers take counsel together Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying,2The kings of the earth prepare for battle; the rulers plot together against the LORD and against his anointed one.
"Let us tear their fetters apart And cast away their cords from us!"3“Let us break their chains,” they cry, “and free ourselves from slavery to God.”
He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them.4But the one who rules in heaven laughs. The Lord scoffs at them.
Then He will speak to them in His anger And terrify them in His fury, saying,5Then in anger he rebukes them, terrifying them with his fierce fury.
"But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain."6For the Lord declares, “I have placed my chosen king on the throne in Jerusalem, on my holy mountain.”
"I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.7The king proclaims the LORD’s decree: “The LORD said to me, ‘You are my son. Today I have become your Father.
Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, And the very ends of the earth as Your possession.8Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the whole earth as your possession.
'You shall break them with a rod of iron, You shall shatter them like earthenware.'"9You will break them with an iron rod and smash them like clay pots.’”
Now therefore, O kings, show discernment; Take warning, O judges of the earth.10Now then, you kings, act wisely! Be warned, you rulers of the earth!
Worship the LORD with reverence And rejoice with trembling.11Serve the LORD with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way, For His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!12Submit to God’s royal son, or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed in the midst of all your activities— for his anger flares up in an instant. But what joy for all who take refuge in him!
