Paul, called as an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,1Paul, called as an apostle of Christ Jesus by God's will, and Sosthenes our brother:
To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling, with all who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours:2To the church of God at Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called as saints, with all those in every place who call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord--both their Lord and ours.
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.3Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus,4I always thank my God for you because of the grace of God given to you in Christ Jesus,
that in everything you were enriched in Him, in all speech and all knowledge,5that you were enriched in him in every way, in all speech and all knowledge.
even as the testimony concerning Christ was confirmed in you,6In this way, the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you,
so that you are not lacking in any gift, awaiting eagerly the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ,7so that you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
who will also confirm you to the end, blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.8He will also strengthen you to the end, so that you will be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.9God is faithful; you were called by him into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment.10Now I urge you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree in what you say, that there be no divisions among you, and that you be united with the same understanding and the same conviction.
For I have been informed concerning you, my brethren, by Chloe's people, that there are quarrels among you.11For it has been reported to me about you, my brothers and sisters, by members of Chloe's people, that there is rivalry among you.
Now I mean this, that each one of you is saying, "I am of Paul," and "I of Apollos," and "I of Cephas," and "I of Christ."12What I am saying is this: One of you says, "I belong to Paul," or "I belong to Apollos," or "I belong to Cephas," or "I belong to Christ."
Has Christ been divided? Paul was not crucified for you, was he? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?13Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in Paul's name?
I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius,14I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius,
so that no one would say you were baptized in my name.15so that no one can say you were baptized in my name.
Now I did baptize also the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized any other.16I did, in fact, baptize the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don't recall if I baptized anyone else.
For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not in cleverness of speech, so that the cross of Christ would not be made void.17For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel--not with eloquent wisdom, so that the cross of Christ will not be emptied of its effect.
For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.18For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but it is the power of God to us who are being saved.
For it is written, "I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE."19For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will set aside the intelligence of the intelligent.
Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?20Where is the one who is wise? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the debater of this age? Hasn't God made the world's wisdom foolish?
For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.21For since, in God's wisdom, the world did not know God through wisdom, God was pleased to save those who believe through the foolishness of what is preached.
For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom;22For the Jews ask for signs and the Greeks seek wisdom,
but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness,23but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the Gentiles.
but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.24Yet to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God,
Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.25because God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength.
For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble;26Brothers and sisters, consider your calling: Not many were wise from a human perspective, not many powerful, not many of noble birth.
but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong,27Instead, God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong.
and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are,28God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world--what is viewed as nothing--to bring to nothing what is viewed as something,
so that no man may boast before God.29so that no one may boast in his presence.
But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption,30It is from him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became wisdom from God for us--our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption,
so that, just as it is written, "LET HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD."31in order that, as it is written: Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.
