To the chief Musician, Altaschith, A Psalm or Song of Asaph. Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare. | 1For the choir director; set to Al-tashheth. A Psalm of Asaph, a Song. We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks, For Your name is near; Men declare Your wondrous works. |
When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly. | 2"When I select an appointed time, It is I who judge with equity. |
The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah. | 3"The earth and all who dwell in it melt; It is I who have firmly set its pillars. Selah. |
I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn: | 4"I said to the boastful, 'Do not boast,' And to the wicked, 'Do not lift up the horn; |
Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck. | 5Do not lift up your horn on high, Do not speak with insolent pride.'" |
For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. | 6For not from the east, nor from the west, Nor from the desert comes exaltation; |
But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another. | 7But God is the Judge; He puts down one and exalts another. |
For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them. | 8For a cup is in the hand of the LORD, and the wine foams; It is well mixed, and He pours out of this; Surely all the wicked of the earth must drain and drink down its dregs. |
But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. | 9But as for me, I will declare it forever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. |
All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted. | 10And all the horns of the wicked He will cut off, But the horns of the righteous will be lifted up. |
